On April 25, in Hanoi, the National Office of Intellectual Property ( Ministry of Science and Technology ) coordinated with the Department of Science and Technology of Hanoi and the University of Water Resources to organize World Intellectual Property Day (IP Day) 2025 with the theme "Intellectual Property and Music - Feel the Beat of IP".

The event is not only a professional activity but also an important opportunity to spread the spirit of innovation, raise awareness and capacity to exploit and protect intellectual property rights in the university community and society.

Promote effective commercial rights, the spirit of the creator

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Luu Hoang Long, Director of the Department of Intellectual Property (Ministry of Science and Technology) said that the Party and State have identified science, technology, innovation and digital transformation as three strategic pillars to help the country become a developed, high-income country by 2045. In all three of these pillars, intellectual property plays a key role.

The message of this year's World Intellectual Property Day reminds us to think more deeply about the role of intellectual property in the human spiritual world. Intellectual property is not only a driving force for creativity and economic growth, not only a valuable intellectual property for people and businesses, but also a tool to protect the artistic treasures of humanity.

Music is the art of sound and rhythm, an indispensable spiritual food, nourishing the spiritual life of people in modern society. Like other creative artistic fields, musical art requires a strong intellectual property protection system, capable of protecting and promoting the effective exploitation of the commercial and spiritual rights of creators and performers.

The Director of the Intellectual Property Department also said that in the current digital age and the strong development of artificial intelligence, musical products, from handwritten music to modern arrangements on digital platforms, can easily be copied and illegally exploited, and therefore, an effective and appropriate intellectual property system is needed to prevent this.

Under the direction of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the National Office of Intellectual Property always identifies intellectual property as one of the most important pillars of the national innovation strategy. “We have been actively coordinating with relevant agencies, ministries and sectors to organize programs to raise awareness of intellectual property, helping the community better understand their rights and obligations in protecting intellectual property,” said Mr. Luu Hoang Long.

In the coming time, the Intellectual Property Office will continue to improve mechanisms and policies; promote education and dissemination of intellectual property knowledge in schools, research institutes and enterprises; and support the protection and commercialization of intellectual property.

Effectively implement new policies and laws to develop intellectual property

According to Mr. Nguyen Quoc Ha, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Science and Technology, intellectual property is not only a legal tool but also a driving force for creativity and dedication, protecting copyrights and intellectual property rights to help artists, inventors, and entrepreneurs feel secure in contributing, creating, and spreading cultural, scientific, and technological values. In the context of digital transformation and the 4.0 industrial revolution taking place strongly, intellectual property plays an increasingly key role in protecting intellectual property, minimizing the risk of copyright infringement and illegal copying.

In recent times, Hanoi has achieved many remarkable results in the field of intellectual property. The city has issued Resolution 16/2021/NQ-HDND and a program to support intellectual property registration for OCOP products, craft village products, and science and technology products (to date, about 200 OCOP products have been protected and intellectual property has been developed).

At the same time, Hanoi City also regularly organizes training courses, seminars, and exhibitions to connect intellectual property products; inspects and guides the management and use of certification marks and collective marks in accordance with legal regulations for districts, towns, and businesses in the city.

To promote the development of intellectual property, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Ha said that in the coming time, the city will continue to strengthen education on intellectual property in schools and mass media, so that people understand the value of intellectual property. At the same time, it will take advantage of new legal policies and closely coordinate with the Ministry of Science and Technology to implement new support mechanisms according to the Capital Law and intellectual property development policies.

According to Professor, Dr. Trinh Minh Thu, Principal of Thuyloi University, intellectual property is not only a matter of scientists, artists or businesses, but is the responsibility of the whole society.

Thuyloi University always attaches importance to the role of intellectual property in training, scientific research and technology transfer. Currently, the University has implemented many programs and activities to raise awareness and skills on intellectual property for staff, lecturers and students. The registration and protection of research results, inventions and useful solutions have become an indispensable part in the development process of the University.

The school regularly coordinates with the Training Center, Appraisal Center, and the Intellectual Property Office to organize training courses to improve intellectual property registration capacity and product commercialization.

Professor, Dr. Trinh Minh Thu also said that despite many difficulties, the School still allocates a reasonable amount of funding to support teachers in registering inventions, patents, and trademarks, thereby encouraging creative activities and commercialization of research products. Thanks to these efforts, the School has achieved some encouraging results such as: 10 exclusive patents, including many patents applied to construction, environment and industry; 1 international patent, granted in India; 6 exclusive utility solution patents, with products related to materials, environmental engineering, biological products, etc.

“These results not only demonstrate the research and creative capacity of the university’s scientists, but also demonstrate the spirit of innovation and responsibility towards the community and the country, especially in areas of strength such as irrigation, water resources, environment, mechanics, materials, biotechnology...”, said Professor, Dr. Trinh Minh Thu.

Within the framework of the event, the University of Water Resources and related units organized an exhibition area for scientific, technological, innovative and digital transformation products such as: scientific publications, books by scientists and lecturers of the University; some technological product models of the E1 language processing robot, new battery models using solid electrolytes with optimal functions, solar-powered steam generators, rapid food safety testing kits, some pharmaceutical and biological products, etc.
