Ready for the new season
The traditional boat racing festival on the Son River has gone through 6 seasons so far, gathering racing and swimming boats from many communes in Bo Trach district. The tournament is divided into two competitions, including: Men's rowing boat and women's racing boat. Each boat will have about 19-20 athletes participating, competing with a total race distance of 6km for men's rowing boats and 4km for women's racing boats, starting from the central boat dock to Xuan Son bridge through the Chay river junction and returning.
To prepare for the 7th Son River boat race organized by the district, from mid-April, the swimmers of Nhan Trach commune have started practicing. Mr. Nguyen Xuan Mat, coach of Nhan Trach commune swimming team shared: “In the previous 6 seasons, Nhan Trach won the prize every year. In particular, in the last 3 seasons, Nhan Trach has continuously won the first prize in the men's swimming category. Responding to the Son River boat race festival, the leaders as well as the people of our commune are very excited, preparing the necessary work to be ready to participate in the tournament. We held a boat launching ceremony and practiced for 2 sessions a day. The swimmers are very enthusiastic, determined to practice and strive to achieve high results like previous years".
Through the annual boat racing seasons organized by Bo Trach district, promoting the spirit of the people of the river region, the people of Nhan Trach commune always responded enthusiastically. This was demonstrated by the fact that the people supported hundreds of millions of VND for the commune's boat team to participate in the tournament; actively cheering at the festival despite the distance traveled of about 40km.
Vice Chairman of Nhan Trach Commune People's Committee Pham Manh Hung said: "After having a plan for the 7th boat race of the district, under the direction of the Commune Party Committee, Nhan Trach Commune People's Committee built and implemented the plan, disseminated it to the villages, and mobilized people to donate to support the participating boat teams. This year, the Organizing Committee ordered new boats made of composite material for the racing and swimming teams instead of wooden boats like previous years. Therefore, to get acquainted with the new boats, the commune deployed early training for the athletes, striving to achieve the highest results."

With the goal of participating in the tournament with the best mindset, the communes: Thanh Trach, Hai Phu, Hung Trach, Duc Trach, Lien Trach, Phong Nha town... have also focused on implementing the contents, such as: Selecting athletes, training enthusiastically, mobilizing funding to support the boat team...
According to Chairman of Hung Trach Commune People's Committee Le Ngoc Son, this year's boat racing festival, Hung Trach commune participated in both events: Men's swimming and women's racing. To prepare well for the competition in the river races, the two local boat teams held meetings to thoroughly understand the tournament's regulations, racing-related content, and training plans...
Preserving traditional culture, promoting tourism
The boat racing festival is one of the traditional festivals of the people of the river region of Quang Binh . Along with the boat racing festival in the districts of Le Thuy, Quang Ninh, Tuyen Hoa, Ba Don town, Dong Hoi city, the traditional boat racing festival on the Son river of Bo Trach district is an activity to preserve and promote the cultural values of the locality.

Learning from the experience of previous seasons, this year, the People's Committee of Bo Trach district promptly issued an implementation plan for units and localities. From the beginning of the year, the district allocated a budget to support communes and towns participating in the boat racing tournament with an amount of 70 million VND/locality, along with socialized funds to build new composite boats (worth 125 million VND/boat) according to the standards of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The district also directed localities to practice to achieve the best results at the race. Relevant sectors and units also coordinated to implement plans to ensure safety for the festival...
Vice Chairman of Bo Trach District People's Committee Nguyen Huu Hong emphasized: "The annual boat racing festival on Son River is a practical activity to preserve and promote the traditional values and cultural identity of the people in the river area of Bo Trach district. This is also an activity that contributes to strengthening the spirit of solidarity, promoting the movement of physical training and sports, aiming to build a comprehensively developed Bo Trach people, meeting the development needs of the homeland and the country. The activities of the festival will attract a large number of people and tourists to participate, creating a joyful and exciting atmosphere. Thereby, promoting the potential and strengths of tourism and culture in Bo Trach district".
