Strengthening measures to prevent the harmful effects of alcohol and beer during Tet

To continue to strictly implement the Law on Prevention and Control of Harmful Effects of Alcohol and Beer and to strengthen measures to prevent and control harmful effects of alcohol and beer during the Lunar New Year and other festivals in 2024, the Ministry of Health has sent a document to the People's Committees of provinces and centrally run cities to direct and organize the implementation of a number of contents.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Health requested the People's Committees of provinces and cities to direct the promotion of information, education and communication activities and organize effective communication programs and campaigns, especially during the Lunar New Year and holidays and festivals in 2024 to raise awareness and change community behavior to prevent and combat the harmful effects of alcohol and beer.

Focus on propaganda on preventing and combating the harmful effects of alcohol and beer on human health, families and communities, to ensure traffic safety, social order and safety; propagate regulations on prohibited behaviors;

Harmful effects of alcohol on people under 18 years old; do not drink alcohol before and while driving; times and places where drinking and selling alcohol are not allowed, and comply with other regulations in the Law on Prevention and Control of Harmful Effects of Alcohol.

At the same time, thoroughly grasp, disseminate and promptly and fully implement the Law and legal documents on preventing and combating the harmful effects of alcohol and beer in the locality. Develop plans and arrange annual local budgets to implement the work of preventing and combating the harmful effects of alcohol and beer.

The Ministry of Health also requested the People's Committees of provinces and cities to direct departments, branches, units and localities to strengthen the work of preventing and combating the harmful effects of alcohol and beer in their areas of responsibility.

Effectively deploy measures to screen, detect early, and intervene to reduce the harmful effects of alcohol on health; prevent and combat the harmful effects of alcohol on workers, students, and drivers; prevent and combat the harmful effects of alcohol in the production, trading, advertising, and promotion of alcohol and other related fields.

At the same time, strengthen inspection and examination of the implementation of the provisions of the Law on Prevention and Control of Harmful Effects of Alcohol and Beer, especially during peak periods, to strictly handle violations according to regulations.

Recently, many medical facilities across the country have treated many cases of alcohol abuse leading to gastrointestinal bleeding and liver diseases. There have even been cases of traffic accidents with blood alcohol levels during the holidays .
