During this time, the My Khe beach management team successfully rescued 11 people who were swept away from shore by waves while swimming. Specifically, they successfully rescued 3 students who drowned on April 30; rescued and brought safely to shore 5 students and 3 people and tourists on May 1.

Pham Hoang An, Deputy Head of the My Khe Beach Management Team, said the victims were swept away from shore while swimming in the afternoon, when thousands of people were swimming at the beach. Fortunately, these cases were discovered and rescued promptly by local residents and members of the My Khe Beach Management Team.
“Established on January 1, 2024, up to now, the My Khe Beach Management Team under the Quang Ngai City Urban Order Management Team has successfully rescued over 40 cases of drowning and being swept away from shore by waves. The management team has 12 members, of which 7 members participate in rescue and search and rescue and must be on duty at the beach regularly to promptly support residents and tourists. During holidays, we are on duty at the beach regularly, especially in areas with offshore currents, which are at high risk of drowning accidents,” said Mr. Pham Hoang An.
Signs announcing My Khe beach regulations are posted in many areas to warn people about safety while swimming. |
Offshore current areas that pose a risk of drowning accidents will be marked with warning signs prohibiting swimming so that people know and stay away. |
Locals and tourists often go to My Khe beach to swim in the beach area stretching over 1km. The number of people swimming at the same time in the morning and afternoon is very large. To ensure safety in this area, the Quang Ngai City Urban Order Management Team has deployed dozens of signs notifying safe swimming hours and warning signs of offshore currents. At the same time, warnings are broadcast and people are encouraged to pay attention to safety while swimming through fixed loudspeakers, mobile loudspeakers and sirens.
Mr. Pham Hoang An recommends that people and tourists who come to My Khe beach should follow the beach's regulations on bathing hours and safe bathing areas; pay attention to announcements from authorities while swimming. At the same time, they can seek support from the My Khe beach management team to find a safe bathing location.
On April 30 and May 1, many people and tourists came to swim at My Khe beach. |
Captain of the Quang Ngai City Urban Order Management Team Phan Cao Lam said, we are installing a buoy system to warn people and tourists to swim in the safe area of the buoy, away from offshore currents, to limit drowning in the My Khe beach area.
In addition to strengthening warnings, reminding tourists, and monitoring at beaches, we must always be ready with human resources and rescue equipment so that we can respond promptly when an incident occurs. We also recommend that tourists not be subjective when swimming and must comply with the rules and instructions at tourist areas and beaches.
Strengthen management, ensure safety
In recent days, prominent beach tourist destinations such as My Khe (Tinh Khe), Ly Son, Chau Tan (Binh Chau), Khe Hai (Binh Thanh), Phuoc Thien (Binh Hai), An Sen (Binh Tan Phu), etc. have become bustling with crowds of people flocking to them.

During the April 30 and May 1 holidays, Be Island (Ly Son) is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Quang Ngai. According to statistics, every day more than 3,000 visitors take a canoe from Big Island to Be Island to swim and snorkel. Mr. Nguyen Thanh Lien, a member of An Binh Tourism Service Cooperative, said that the cooperative has nearly 60 people participating in rowing basket boats to take visitors from the shore to the coral diving area, about 200m from shore.
“All members participating in providing this service have attended training courses on rescue skills, ensuring absolute safety for tourists. Before boarding the basket boat to the coral viewing area, all tourists are required to wear life jackets,” Mr. Lien added.

In addition, in the Back Beach area of Be Island - where tourists come to swim the most, local authorities have installed a system of swimming buoys, identified safe areas for swimming and instructed tourists not to swim out of this area.
Thanks to the natural advantages of clear blue sea water and long stretches of fine sand, the beaches in the province have quickly become ideal destinations for many people to come to have fun and relax. However, it is necessary to pay attention to safety when swimming and playing in these places, in order to minimize unfortunate accidents that may occur.
The beaches in the province attract a lot of people and tourists during the holidays. |
Chairman of the People's Committee of Binh Hai Commune (Binh Son) Ngo Van Thinh said that the commune government has installed warning buoys to ensure the safety of people and tourists coming to swim at the beaches in the commune. At the same time, it is recommended that tourists, especially families with small children, strictly comply with safety regulations, pay attention to signs and instructions from rescue forces, do not swim in deep water areas, and avoid going into the sea when there are big waves or bad weather to ensure safety for themselves and their loved ones.
Not only beaches, tourist areas and spots have also stepped up measures to ensure safety for visitors. At Suoi Chi Eco-tourism Area (Nghia Hanh) during the April 30 and May 1 holidays, on average, more than 1,000 visitors came to visit and experience the spring bathing services every day.
Director of Suoi Chi Eco-tourism Area Nguyen Huu Hoa said, we mobilized more than 20 security personnel, on duty continuously at lakes and key locations to promptly remind tourists not to go to dangerous areas. At the same time, we are ready with rescue plans, actively ensuring that tourists have safe and enjoyable experiences at the tourist area.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Van (Quang Ngai City) said that the tourist area is located in the primeval forest, so when I came here, my family and I felt very cool. In the hot weather, we were immersed in the cool water of Chi stream. Safety work here is quite good, the staff is on duty constantly monitoring and promptly reminding visitors to stay away from slippery places where it is easy to fall.
To ensure safety conditions for people and tourists during the April 30 and May 1 holidays, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has issued a document directing tourist areas and spots with water entertainment services and tourist transport vehicles to seriously implement solutions to ensure traffic security and safety, especially on inland waterways. Travel businesses absolutely must not use unregistered, uninspected, and unsafe vehicles to serve visitors and tourists.
