Strengthening management, operation and price stabilization during Tet

Less than a month to go until the Lunar New Year 2025. "As scheduled", during the Tet holiday, many goods will increase in price according to the law. Therefore, the authorities need to intervene to stabilize market prices, avoid shortages and price hikes, and at the same time strengthen inspection and supervision, detect and strictly handle cases of taking advantage of the Tet holiday to increase prices suddenly, affecting people's lives.

According to the Center for Industry and Trade Information ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ), on January 7, the price of live pigs in all three regions: the North, the Central and the Central Highlands, and the South is maintaining an increase compared to the previous two months with an increase of about 10,000 VND/kg. The highest price in the North was recorded at 69,000 VND/kg and the lowest was 67,000 VND/kg. Similarly, in the South, the Central and the Central Highlands, the highest price of live pigs was also 69,000 VND/kg, the lowest was 66,000 VND/kg.

Thus, compared to about 2 months ago, the price of live pigs nationwide has increased by about 10,000 VND/kg.

In Quang Ninh, prices of some goods and services increased slightly near Tet. According to the General Statistics Office, the province's consumer price index (CPI) in December 2024 increased by 0.53% compared to the previous month, increased by 2.36% over the same period last year, and increased by 2.35% in the fourth quarter of 2024 compared to the same period last year. The reason is that Quang Ninh increased the price of medical services according to Resolution No. 247/NQ-HDND, the price of fresh seafood increased near Tet, the price of clothing increased due to cold weather, the price of electricity increased because businesses increased production at the end of the year, the price of gasoline increased according to world gasoline prices, and the price of housing maintenance materials increased due to the demand for construction at the end of the year...

Recently, the Provincial People's Committee has requested sectors and localities to strengthen management, operation and price stabilization during the Lunar New Year 2025. In particular, implementing synchronous measures to ensure price stability, preventing price fluctuations that affect economic and social life during the Tet holiday. Specifically, closely monitor the situation, promptly take solutions to ensure balance of supply and demand of goods and services in the province, focusing on construction materials, goods with high consumer demand, essential consumer goods (food, food, gas, gasoline), to avoid shortages, hoarding, speculation, and unreasonable price increases before, during and after the Lunar New Year 2025.

Along with that, localities need to closely coordinate with Customs, Police, Market Management, and Border Guard agencies in the province to strengthen inspection and anti-smuggling work across the border; strictly handle violations of the law, trade fraud, and counterfeit goods to stabilize prices, supply and demand of goods in the market before, during and after the Lunar New Year 2025. At the same time, continue to implement solutions to facilitate the transportation, circulation and consumption of goods; strengthen regional connectivity to exchange potential and strengths, focusing on logistics connectivity.

Currently, under the direction of the Ministry of Industry and Trade as well as the province, businesses have developed plans to exploit goods for Tet, increasing by an average of 7-25% depending on each item compared to the 2024 Tet Service Plan to be ready to serve the people, in which food, vegetables and fruits are also being purchased and produced by businesses and cooperatives to promptly supply people during peak consumption days.

In fact, according to annual practice, the prices of goods will increase for some essential items serving Tet, not only due to market demand, but also due to the psychology of serving Tet. Therefore, the authorities need to strengthen inspection and supervision, detect and strictly handle cases of taking advantage of Tet to increase prices. At the same time, ensure the supply of goods associated with market stability, not to let shortages or supply disruptions occur, causing sudden price increases during this time.
