Strengthening response to new developments of COVID-19 pandemic

The COVID-19 epidemic is showing signs of increasing again in some countries and the number of cases in Vietnam has increased slightly in recent weeks. The health sector of An Giang province is stepping up measures to ensure examination, detection and treatment, minimizing the risk of a strong outbreak.

To proactively and effectively control the COVID-19 epidemic, minimize the number of severe cases and deaths, and protect people's health, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee has assigned the Department of Health to urgently review and update the plan for admission and treatment of COVID-19 patients of the province and medical examination and treatment facilities according to the forecast of the epidemic situation, to avoid passive and unexpected responses. Prepare facilities, isolation areas, medical equipment, and medical supplies to organize admission, isolation, diagnosis, treatment, and infection control. Strengthen infection prevention, especially respiratory infections. Have solutions to ensure safety for patients in high-risk groups, minimize cases of severe illness and death...

The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism presides over and coordinates with the Department of Health and mass media agencies to continue to disseminate information about the epidemic situation and measures to prevent and control COVID-19 according to the recommendations of the Ministry of Health . Strengthen extensive dissemination to raise people's awareness, not to be subjective or negligent; continue to strictly implement the "2K Message" (masks, disinfection) and other epidemic prevention measures, such as: Limit unnecessary gatherings, keep distance when in contact. Timely provide information about new strains of the virus, the level of danger and preventive measures so that people are fully aware and proactively respond. Fight and refute false and distorted information about the epidemic situation, causing public confusion.

According to the Department of Health, currently, medical units are closely monitoring the epidemic situation, especially at border gates, medical facilities and in the community. The An Giang Center for Disease Control (CDC) is leading and coordinating with district-level health centers to promote event-based surveillance (EBS) to promptly detect suspected cases, COVID-19 cases and new outbreaks. At the same time, assess the risk of the epidemic to promptly advise on appropriate epidemic prevention and control measures.

People proactively wear masks at medical facilities

“Through monitoring, it shows that the province has stepped up communication to raise awareness of disease prevention in the community. The spirit of “not being subjective or negligent” continues to be thoroughly implemented, our people are quite assured, when going to the hospital for a check-up or in crowded places, we do not forget to wear masks” - Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyet (My Xuyen ward, Long Xuyen city) shared.

Dr. Phan Van Dien Phuong, Deputy Director of the Department of Health, requested medical facilities to review and update their plans for admitting and treating COVID-19 patients. Preparing facilities, isolation areas, medical equipment, medical supplies, and medical oxygen is a mandatory requirement to respond promptly when the epidemic situation increases. In particular, medical facilities must strictly screen and classify patients with respiratory symptoms and strictly follow infection control guidelines.

An Giang Central General Hospital said that the unit was assigned to preside over and coordinate with other facilities to develop a master plan to reserve and purchase drugs to treat COVID-19. Solutions to ensure safety for patients in high-risk groups, such as pregnant women, people with underlying diseases, severe illnesses, the elderly, etc., along with intensive care, cardiovascular, artificial kidney, and surgical areas are given special attention. The Center for Disease Control alone has developed a plan to purchase chemicals, medical supplies, and testing reagents to serve the work of epidemic prevention and control.

Recommendations for COVID-19 prevention and control

COVID-19 tends to increase and break out in many countries... So far, there is no evidence of more severe symptoms of COVID-19 variants in this wave and WHO has not issued any new warnings for COVID-19 globally. In Vietnam, sporadic cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in some localities, with no concentrated outbreaks recorded. Currently, the demand for travel and tourism is increasing, with large crowds gathering at tourist, entertainment, and recreation sites and public areas, increasing the risk of disease transmission, so the possibility of an increase in cases in our country in the coming time cannot be ruled out.

To proactively prevent and combat COVID-19, the health sector recommends that people take 5 measures: Wear masks in public places, on public transport, at medical facilities; limit gatherings in crowded places (if not necessary); wash hands regularly with clean water, soap or antiseptic solution; increase physical activity, physical training, proper nutrition; when having symptoms of fever, cough, difficulty breathing, go immediately to the nearest medical facility for timely examination, monitoring and treatment...
