Tay Ninh urgently reinforces 23 dike lines to protect agricultural production.

Faced with the complicated developments of floods in recent days, low-lying localities in Dong Thap Muoi, Tay Ninh province, are making efforts and simultaneously implementing many urgent solutions to reinforce the dike system, protect agricultural production and people's lives.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Tay Ninh, since the beginning of October, floodwaters from the upper reaches of the Vam Co Tay River have risen rapidly, inundating many canals and streams and putting great pressure on key dykes. In some communes such as Vinh Chau, Khanh Hung, Hung Dien, Tuyen Binh and Hau Thanh, there have been reports of water overflowing the dykes and local landslides.

Faced with that reality, Tay Ninh Irrigation and Clean Water Center coordinated with localities to urgently mobilize human resources, materials, and mechanical equipment to handle and reinforce weak dike sections.

Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Tay Ninh Do Huu Phuong said: "The whole province is focusing on reinforcing 23 key dike positions, with a total length of more than 110km (protecting more than 11,300 hectares of rice), with a total implementation cost of more than 6.2 billion VND from the public irrigation support fund in 2025. The goal is to ensure safe agricultural production and stabilize the lives of people in flooded areas."

The locations and dykes that need to be reinforced are concentrated in 5 communes in the Dong Thap Muoi region of the province, including: Vinh Chau, Hung Dien, Khanh Hung, Tuyen Binh and Hau Thanh. Of which, Vinh Chau commune is the largest locality, with 12 dykes that need to be reinforced, with a total length of more than 80km, protecting more than 7,600 hectares of production land.

The dike lines in Vinh Chau commune include: 1/6 canal dike (through Vinh Buu, Vam Gua, Bon, Xom Moi hamlets), 10km long, 3km reinforced east bank, 7km reinforced west bank; T2 – TĐ6 canal dike, 9km long, 3.5km reinforced south bank, 5.5km reinforced north bank; T1 canal dike, 8km long, reinforced both banks; 2/9 canal dike and 22/12 canal dike, 15km long. In addition, there are Ca Cay – Bung Nhat, 8 Bao – Hau Phuoc Xuyen, canal number 12 and flank canal 79 – Ven Lua,...

In Hung Dien commune, reinforcement work is being carried out on three main routes: Ba Thua dike (Go Phao hamlet) 3km long; Ngon Song Trang dike (Bung Ram hamlet) 4km long; KT11 canal dike (Song Trang hamlet) 5km long. The total protected area is about 450ha.

In Khanh Hung commune, forces are urgently reinforcing the KT4B and KT4-7 dikes, 1.7km long, protecting about 200 hectares.

In Tuyen Binh commune, the two key dike lines are the dike surrounding Trung Liem hamlet and the dike behind the canal on the southern bank of the Vam Co Tay river with a total length of 8km, protecting 500 hectares.

In Hau Thanh commune, construction work is taking place on 5 dike routes including: Dike surrounding canal 63 (Nguyen Khoe hamlet, Duong Chuyen hamlet), 3.2km long; canal 2000 Bac (Nhon Hoa hamlet) 2.6km long; canal K95 (Hoa Hung hamlet) 4km long; Co Mi canal (from canal 7 Thuoc to canal 79) 5km long; canal 2000 Nam (Bui Cu canal to canal Ranh) 5.2km long; total protected area is nearly 2,500 hectares of cultivated land.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Tay Ninh, up to now, the construction units have completed about 30% of the work volume. Many key locations after being reinforced have basically controlled the overflow situation, stabilized the dike roof and foot, and limited the risk of landslides.

Along with the construction, the commune authorities also mobilized militia, youth union members and people to participate in dyke maintenance and manually reinforce weak points when the water level rises.

Localities regularly check and monitor water levels, proactively implementing the "4 on-site" motto (on-site command, on-site forces, on-site means, on-site logistics) to promptly handle any arising situations, protect production and people's lives. The highest goal is to ensure absolute safety for agricultural production areas, and limit damage caused by floods.

Not only a technical task, the dike reinforcement work is also a joint effort of the whole community. On the dikes in the Dong Thap Muoi region of Tay Ninh, every day there are hundreds of people along with youth and militia forces on duty, ready to respond to unusual rain and flood developments./.
