Lunar New Year and National Day holidays in 2026 for cadres, civil servants, public employees and workers of administrative agencies, public service agencies, political organizations, and socio-political organizations.

The Ministry of Interior has just issued a notice regarding the Lunar New Year and National Day holiday schedule for 2026 for administrative agencies, public service organizations, political organizations, socio-political organizations, businesses, and other employers to implement.

Specifically, officials, civil servants, and employees of administrative agencies, public service organizations, political organizations, and socio-political organizations (hereinafter referred to as officials and civil servants) will have the following Lunar New Year holiday in 2026: 5 days off as prescribed, including 1 day before Tet and 4 days after Tet, from Monday, February 16, 2026 (corresponding to the 29th day of the 12th lunar month of the Year of the Snake) to Friday, February 20, 2026 (corresponding to the 4th day of the 1st lunar month of the Year of the Horse).

Public officials and employees will have the following holiday schedule for National Day in 2026: Two days off as per regulations, including September 2nd, 2026 and the day immediately preceding, September 1st, 2026.

The workday will be swapped from Monday, August 31, 2026 to Saturday, August 22, 2026 (Monday, August 31, 2026 off and Saturday, August 22, 2026, will be the compensatory workday).

Ensuring public service during holidays and Tet (Lunar New Year)

Agencies and units implementing the Lunar New Year and National Day holiday schedule in 2026 should arrange and organize on-call departments according to regulations and work efficiently to ensure continuous work and good service to organizations and the people. Particular attention should be paid to assigning officials and civil servants to be on duty to handle any unexpected or urgent matters that may arise during the holiday period.

Ministries, agencies, and localities should have specific and appropriate plans and measures to encourage units, businesses, organizations, and individuals to actively and proactively implement measures to develop production and business, economic and social activities, ensure the supply and demand of goods and services, stabilize prices and markets, and contribute to promoting economic growth, practicing thrift, and combating waste before, during, and after the Lunar New Year and National Day holidays in 2026.

Agencies and units that do not follow a fixed Saturday and Sunday weekly holiday schedule will base their holiday arrangements on their specific programs and plans, in accordance with the law.

Employers will decide on the option for Lunar New Year and National Day holidays in 2026.

For employees not covered by Clause 1 of this Notice, the employer may choose the following options for Lunar New Year and National Day holidays in 2026:

Lunar New Year holiday: Choose to take 1 day off at the end of the Year of the Snake and 4 days off at the beginning of the Year of the Horse, or 2 days off at the end of the Year of the Snake and 3 days off at the beginning of the Year of the Horse, or 3 days off at the end of the Year of the Snake and 2 days off at the beginning of the Year of the Horse.

National Day Holiday: Closed on Wednesday, September 2nd, 2026, and you can choose to take one of two days off: Tuesday, September 1st, 2026, or Thursday, September 3rd, 2026.

Announce the Lunar New Year and National Day holiday schedule for 2026 to employees at least 30 days before implementation.

If the weekly rest day coincides with a public holiday as stipulated in Clause 1, Article 112 of the Labor Code, the employee is entitled to a compensatory day off on the next working day as stipulated in Clause 3, Article 111 of the Labor Code.

Employers are encouraged to apply the same Lunar New Year and National Day holiday schedules for 2026 as those for civil servants and public employees; agreements that are more favorable to employees are also encouraged.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh approves the plan for a 9-day consecutive Tet holiday in the year of the Horse.

Previously, on October 13th, the Government Office issued document No. 9859/VPCP-KGVX regarding the Lunar New Year and National Day holidays in 2026. Accordingly, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh agreed to the plan for a 9-day consecutive holiday for the Year of the Horse.

Specifically, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh agreed with the proposal of the Ministry of Interior (in document 8764/BNV-CVL dated October 1, 2025) regarding the Lunar New Year and National Day holiday schedule for 2026.

The Prime Minister instructed the Minister of Home Affairs to notify administrative agencies, public service organizations, political organizations, socio-political organizations, businesses, and employees as prescribed.

Agencies and units should arrange and organize on-call departments according to regulations and work efficiently to handle tasks continuously and ensure service to the people.

Ministries, agencies, and localities should develop specific and appropriate plans and measures to encourage units, businesses, organizations, and individuals to actively and proactively implement measures to develop production and business, economic and social activities, ensure the supply and demand of goods and services, stabilize prices and markets, and contribute to promoting economic growth, practicing thrift, and combating waste before, during, and after the Lunar New Year and National Day holidays in 2026.

The Lunar New Year holiday in 2026 will be from February 14th to Sunday, February 22nd (Gregorian calendar).

Previously, the Ministry of Interior had drafted a proposal for Lunar New Year and National Day holidays in 2026 for officials, civil servants, and employees of administrative agencies, public service organizations, political organizations, socio-political organizations, and businesses, and sent a letter to 13 relevant ministries and agencies for their opinions. In total, 100% of the ministries and agencies that submitted feedback agreed with the proposal put forward by the Ministry of Interior.

The Ministry of Interior has submitted to the Prime Minister for consideration and decision the Lunar New Year and National Day holidays in 2026, specifically as follows:

For civil servants and public employees, the Lunar New Year holiday in 2026 will be 5 days long as prescribed, including 1 day before Tet and 4 days after Tet.

Public officials and employees will have their Lunar New Year holiday in 2026 from Saturday, February 14, 2026 (corresponding to the 27th day of the 12th lunar month of the Year of the Snake) until Sunday, February 22, 2026 (corresponding to the 6th day of the 1st lunar month of the Year of the Horse).

Therefore, under this plan, civil servants and public employees will have 9 days off for the Lunar New Year holiday in 2026 (including 5 days of Lunar New Year holiday as stipulated and 4 days of weekly rest).

For the 2026 National Day holiday, civil servants and public employees will have 5 days off.

National Day holiday in 2026: Holiday on September 2nd, 2026 and the day before, September 1st, 2026; The working day will be swapped from Monday (August 31st, 2026) to Saturday (August 22nd, 2026).

Public officials and employees will have a holiday for National Day in 2026 from Saturday, August 29, 2026 to Wednesday, September 2, 2026.

Therefore, during the 2026 National Day holiday, civil servants and public employees will have 5 days off (including 2 days of the National Day holiday as stipulated, 2 weekend days off, and 1 day swapped with a weekend day off).

Employers arrange Lunar New Year and National Day holidays for their employees.

For employees , based on actual conditions and the holiday schedule for civil servants and public employees, employers arrange the Lunar New Year and National Day holidays for employees, specifically:

Lunar New Year holiday in 2026: Choose 1 day at the end of the Year of the Snake and 4 days at the beginning of the Year of the Horse, or 2 days at the end of the Year of the Snake and 3 days at the beginning of the Year of the Horse, or 3 days at the end of the Year of the Snake and 2 days at the beginning of the Year of the Horse.

National Day holiday in 2026: Employers decide to give employees 2 days off (September 2nd and one day immediately before or after).

Announce the Lunar New Year and National Day holiday schedule for 2026 to employees at least 30 days before implementation.

If the weekly day off coincides with a public holiday as stipulated in Clause 1, Article 112 of the Labor Code, the employer shall arrange for the employee to take a compensatory day off on the next working day as stipulated in Clause 3, Article 111 of the Labor Code.

Employers are encouraged to apply the same Lunar New Year and National Day holiday schedule for 2026 as for civil servants and public employees; agreements that are more favorable to employees are also encouraged.
