The painting has an area of 2.4m x 15.3m, depicting images of butterflies, sugarcane, Cuba's national flower, lotus flowers, bamboo, Vietnamese areca trees, One Pillar Pagoda, Cuba's Revolution Square... thereby sending a message that the Vietnam - Cuba friendship goes beyond the political sphere.

According to Sai Gon Giai Phong newspaper, speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Loc Ha, member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, said: The mural is a story told through images and colors about the special relationship between Vietnam and Cuba. The image of the two intertwined Vietnamese and Cuban flags is the heart of the work, symbolizing the close brotherhood that has overcome the harsh challenges of history together.
He expressed his gratitude to the Cuban Consulate General for creating the conditions for this meaningful project to be born, and praised the students of the Ho Chi Minh City University of Fine Arts for creating a valuable cultural heritage, contributing to enriching the journey of special relations between Vietnam and Cuba.
According to Ms. Ariadne Feo Labrada, Consul General of Cuba in Ho Chi Minh City, the mural was first inaugurated in 2022 as a message of friendship between Vietnam and Cuba, and is now being renewed to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

She affirmed that, despite the geographical distance, Cuba and Vietnam are connected by cultural, historical, soil and many other connections.
"I am sure that the people of Ho Chi Minh City and tourists will love this work, and many people will come to take photos in front of the wall every day. We would like to dedicate the mural to the heroes, the young people and all the people of the two countries, with the hope of contributing to raising cultural and historical awareness between generations of Cuba and Vietnam," she said.
Ho Chi Minh City strengthens cooperation with Cuba in many fieldsPreviously, on September 5, Mr. Duong Anh Duc, Head of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee (HCMC), received Mr. Víctor Fidel Gaute Lopez, Vice President of the Cuban Institute for Friendship with Peoples (ICAP), on the occasion of the Cuban delegation's visit to Vietnam and attendance at the 80th National Day celebration on September 2. According to the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee's website, at the meeting, Mr. Duong Anh Duc expressed his appreciation for the special affection that the Cuban people have for Vietnam in the cause of national liberation as well as in the cause of national construction and development. He affirmed that the Vietnamese people, including Ho Chi Minh City, always remember and are grateful for Cuba's loyal solidarity. He said that Ho Chi Minh City, the country's economic locomotive, wishes to strengthen cooperation with Cuban localities, especially in the fields of health and education. The city recently signed a health cooperation agreement with Cuba, while promoting educational cooperation. Bilateral trade turnover in 2024 increased by 9.8% compared to 2023 and is forecast to continue to increase in 2025. Mr. Duong Anh Duc added that Vietnam has launched the program “65 years of Vietnam - Cuba friendship” and received strong support from the people of Ho Chi Minh City in particular and the Vietnamese people in general, all of which stem from their attachment to Cuba. He expressed his belief that bilateral relations will continue to develop after recent visits by the leaders of the two countries. Mr. Víctor Fidel Gaute López was moved by the deep affection of the Vietnamese people, including those of Ho Chi Minh City, for Cuba. He highly appreciated the role, development potential as well as the heroic revolutionary tradition of the City; at the same time, he shared his special impressions about the recent 80th National Day celebration on September 2, especially the massive participation of the masses, demonstrating the spirit of solidarity and strength of Vietnam. |
