Contestant Dong Thi Oanh won First Prize in the Final Round of the 2024 Lao Cai Province Chinese Speaking Contest

On October 22, the Lao Cai Provincial Union of Friendship Organizations organized the final round of the 2024 Lao Cai Provincial Chinese Speaking Contest with the theme: "Preserving, promoting and deepening the traditional friendship between Vietnam and China".

Attending the program were Mr. Vu Van Cai - Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council, Chairman of the Lao Cai Provincial Union of Friendship Organizations, Head of the Contest Organizing Committee; Mr. Duong Duc Huy - Member of the Standing Committee, Head of the Provincial Party Propaganda Department, Chairman of the Vietnam - China Friendship Association of the province; leaders of relevant departments, branches, sectors and localities, and more than 200 students from 2 branches of Thai Nguyen University in Lao Cai province, Lao Cai College.

Speaking at the opening of the final round, Mr. Vu Van Cai said that the 2024 Lao Cai Chinese Speaking Contest was organized to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (January 18, 1950 - January 18, 2025). The contest encourages the movement of learning Chinese, creating a useful playground and opportunity for those who love Chinese to develop their abilities and improve their communication skills in Chinese.

Congratulating the 15 excellent contestants who surpassed 235 contestants in the whole province to enter the final round, Mr. Vu Van Cai hoped that the contestants would be calm and confident to complete the contest content well. At the same time, the contest's jury needs to uphold the spirit and responsibility, work impartially and objectively, and select the best contestants to participate in the national final round.

At the program, the contestants went through 3 rounds: eloquence, talent and question and answer. For the eloquence round, each contestant had a maximum of 6 minutes to perform a test according to the contest theme. In the talent round, each contestant had a maximum of 5 minutes to show their talent in Chinese language/music. After the above 2 rounds, the Jury selected 6 excellent contestants to participate in the question and answer round. Each contestant had a maximum of 3 minutes to answer 1 question from the Jury related to the content of the eloquence.

As a result, the Organizing Committee awarded 1 First Prize, 2 Second Prizes, 3 Third Prizes, 9 Encouragement Prizes and 3 Special Prizes to the contestants. Contestant Dong Thi Oanh from Lao Cai College won the First Prize of this year's contest; Second Prize went to contestant Ban Thi Kim Ngan from Thai Nguyen University Branch in Lao Cai Province and Nguyen Thi Thanh Hai from Bat Xat Town Primary School; Third Prize went to students from Thai Nguyen University Branch in Lao Cai Province, including Nguyen Thi Phuong, Vang Chinh Luan and Ly Tho Go.

After the contest, the Organizing Committee also agreed to select contestants Dong Thi Oanh and Ban Thi Kim Ngan to represent Lao Cai to participate in the 2024 National Chinese Speaking Contest scheduled to take place next November in Da Nang.

On October 14, the opening ceremony of the 23rd Vietnam-China Youth Friendship Meeting took place in Nanning City, China. This year's event, themed "Inheriting traditional friendship, joining hands to create the future", marked an important step forward in the cooperation between the youth of the two countries.
