The traditional bronze casting profession of Thieu Trung commune has a history of thousands of years and has been preserved, maintained and promoted to this day. In addition to products such as bronze gongs, bronze statues, worship objects, incense burners, animal figures, etc., the most special thing here is that the artisans of Tra Dong village also cast Dong Son bronze drums with sophisticated patterns and motifs in ancient styles and restored ancient artifacts. Mr. Le Van Bay, a bronze casting artisan of Tra Dong village, said: "I don't know when the profession began, I only know that since I was a child, my grandfather and then my father passed on the profession and to this day, I still follow my father's profession."
To make a bronze casting product, the craftsmen must go through many stages, requiring not only dexterity and meticulousness but also diligence and hard work. Currently, some production stages have been supported by machines, however, there are still some stages and the basic bronze making still follows the traditional manual method. With a unique secret branded for hundreds of years, many products have shown the level, development of techniques and art of artisans in Tra Dong bronze casting village such as bronze drum with Ngoc Lu version and pattern, the largest bronze drum in Vietnam, restoration of the kneeling genie statue... Currently, the traditional bronze casting profession is creating stable jobs for nearly 400 workers; some products are recognized as 4-star OCOP products such as: Bay Tuyen bronze drum, Bay Tuyen moon-watching carp bronze painting, Toan Linh bronze drum and Quy Chau bronze drum...
Determining that developing traditional crafts associated with tourism not only contributes to preserving and promoting the cultural values of craft villages but also promotes socio-economic development, Thieu Trung commune has been implementing a number of plans such as building sightseeing routes; connecting tourist routes and spots; guiding tourists to visit, directly participate in some production stages, completing products... Besides, focusing on craft transmission, applying science and technology to production to improve quality, diversify product designs; aiming for 100% of traditional bronze casting production facilities to have products that meet OCOP certification.
Currently, in Thieu Hoa district, there are more than 2,000 establishments developing rural occupations, such as bronze casting, bamboo and rattan weaving, silk reeling, weaving, rice paper making, civil carpentry... creating jobs and stable income for more than 5,000 workers. Production establishments in the district have boldly invested capital in modernizing technology, applying modern machinery to create products that meet the increasing demands of the market, helping craft village products stabilize output. Accordingly, the production value of rural occupations increases year by year, contributing to creating jobs, increasing income, improving the lives of rural workers; some occupations also contribute to bringing cultural and artistic values through each period, so they need to be preserved and developed. In addition to developing traditional occupations; the introduction and propagation of new occupations in recent times has also been of interest to the district, each year the district opens nearly ten vocational training classes with more than 500 participants.
In the coming time, Thieu Hoa district will continue to encourage establishments to invest in equipment and innovate technology to serve production in order to diversify products, meet the increasing demand of the market; form value chains from raw material areas, production, to product consumption. At the same time, on the basis of the One Commune One Product Program that has been issued, the district encourages and calls on production establishments with typical products that have been sold on the market to participate in the program to increase value, create quality products to meet market demand. In addition, implement trade promotion activities and search for product consumption markets; organize production establishments to participate in fairs to promote, advertise and consume products. Continue to provide vocational training for rural workers, encourage enterprises to participate in training, support job creation for rural workers; There are policies to attract artisans and skilled workers to participate in training... On the other hand, support investment in upgrading and completing infrastructure serving production such as: roads, electricity, building centers, points of sale, display areas, product introduction and promotion, warehouses... Along with that, focus on developing small-scale industries and rural occupations associated with socio-economic development, promoting cultural values, enhancing product value associated with tourism service development, linking production activities with spiritual tourism, eco-tourism, community tourism...
