Weather on October 27: Heavy rain, floods on rivers in the Central region continue to rise

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, in the early morning of October 27, the area from Thua Thien Hue to Quang Ngai had heavy to very heavy rain, while the South also experienced localized heavy rain. Many places recorded rainfall of over 100 mm, such as Dinh Bach Ma station (Thua Thien Hue) and Cong Rach Bun station (Dong Thap).

In the next 24 hours, the area from South Quang Tri to Da Nang and East Quang Ngai will continue to have heavy to very heavy rain, with total rainfall ranging from 200-400 mm, with some places over 600 mm. From Ha Tinh to North Quang Tri, there will be moderate to heavy rain, with some places over 350 mm.

In the Central Highlands, from early morning on October 27 to morning on October 28, the eastern areas of Gia Lai and Dak Lak will have moderate rain, heavy rain, and locally very heavy rain of over 150 mm. In addition, the Khanh Hoa area, eastern Lam Dong and the South will also have rain, moderate rain, and in some places heavy rain of over 100 mm. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind.

Currently, floods on rivers in the Central region are rising rapidly. The water level of the Huong River (Hue) is rising again due to upstream reservoirs increasing water discharge; the Vu Gia - Thu Bon River (Da Nang, Quang Nam ) is also rising. It is forecasted that in the next 6 hours, the flood on the Vu Gia River at Ai Nghia will reach alert level 3, then decrease. In the next 12 hours, the flood on the Thu Bon River at Cau Lau will continue to rise to alert level 3, while rivers in Hue will be above alert level 3.

In the next 12-24 hours, the flood on the Thu Bon River will drop to alert level 2, the Vu Gia River will be above alert level 1, while rivers in Hue will remain at high levels. Warning of high risk of flooding, flash floods and landslides in the area from Hue to Da Nang.

At sea, strong northeast winds of level 6-7, gusting to level 8-9 are operating in the northern waters of the East Sea, including the Hoang Sa area; waves 3-5 m high, rough seas. In the Gulf of Tonkin, winds of level 6, gusting to level 8, waves 1.5-3 m high; in the sea from South Quang Tri to Quang Ngai, winds of level 5-6, gusting to level 8, rough seas, waves 2-4 m high.

Experts recommend that people in mountainous areas, along rivers and streams in the Central region and low-lying areas should closely monitor the development of rain and floods, proactively prepare evacuation plans when necessary; and fishermen should limit going to sea due to big waves and strong winds in the sea areas from the North East Sea to the Gulf of Thailand.
