Weather on September 3: Widespread heavy rain in the Central and Southern regions, warning of strong winds at sea

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, on September 3, many areas across the country will continue to have thunderstorms, locally heavy to very heavy rain, with warnings of the risk of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind.

In the North and the area from Thanh Hoa to Ha Tinh, the weather is generally showers and thunderstorms in some places. Meanwhile, from Quang Tri to Da Nang , there are scattered showers and thunderstorms in the late afternoon and evening, with heavy rain in some places.

Notably, the Central Highlands and the South continued to record heavy rain from early morning. The rainfall measured at Ia Broai ( Gia Lai ) was 115.6mm, the Dak Sin 1 hydroelectric dam (Lam Dong) and Thanh Bac (Tay Ninh) were both over 80mm. In the next 24 hours, these areas are likely to have moderate to heavy rain, with some places over 100mm, concentrated in the afternoon and evening.

It is forecasted that from Hue to the South Central Coast, there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms, with rainfall ranging from 10 to 30mm, and locally over 80mm. Meteorological experts warn of the risk of heavy rain, over 90mm/3 hours, which could cause localized flooding.

At sea, the tropical convergence zone is connected to the low pressure area operating in the central part of the East Sea, causing widespread thunderstorms. The sea areas from Quang Ngai to Ca Mau, Ca Mau to An Giang, the Gulf of Thailand, the Northeast of the East Sea, as well as the Central and Southern East Sea (including the Truong Sa sea area) all have showers, thunderstorms with strong gusts of wind. Particularly, the offshore sea areas from Khanh Hoa to Lam Dong and the Southern East Sea have southwest winds of level 5, sometimes level 6, gusting to level 7 - 8; waves 1.5 - 3m high, rough seas.

Experts advise people in mountainous areas to be aware of the risk of flash floods and landslides; and low-lying areas to be on guard against flooding. Fishermen operating at sea need to closely monitor weather developments and proactively take measures to ensure safety.
