Approval of urban railway route No. 5 Van Cao - Hoa Lac

On September 4, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Duong Duc Tuan signed and issued Decision No. 4602/QD-UBND. This Decision approved the route plan and location of urban railway line No. 5 (Van Cao - Ngoc Khanh - Lang - Hoa Lac section) at a scale of 1/500. This route passes through 18 wards and communes in Hanoi city.

According to the decision, the route plan was prepared by the Hanoi Institute of Construction Planning in 2025 and has been appraised by the Hanoi Department of Planning and Architecture.

The main line of urban railway No. 5 has a total length of about 39.6km. The starting point of the line is located at the intersection of Van Cao - Hoang Hoa Tham, ending at Thach Binh station (Hoa Lac). In addition, the project also has 2 branches connecting to Depot No. 1 (in Son Dong commune, Duong Hoa) and Depot No. 2 (in Hoa Lac commune), with a total length of about 4.8km.

The entire line includes 20 stations, including 6 underground stations, 3 elevated stations and 11 ground stations. The stations are mainly located along Thang Long Avenue and Hoa Lac - Hoa Binh Expressway. Many stations will connect directly with other urban railway lines such as lines 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8 and Monorail M2, creating a complete traffic network.

The design of urban railway line No. 5 has a mixed structure. The underground section extends from Van Cao through Lieu Giai, Nguyen Chi Thanh to Tran Duy Hung. The ground and elevated sections start from behind the National Convention Center, continuing along Thang Long Avenue to the end point at Hoa Lac.

The project has two main Depot areas. Depot 1 has an area of ​​32 hectares, serving both lines 5 and 8 (Son Dong - Duong Xa), and also integrates a railway vehicle assembly workshop. Depot 2 has an area of ​​10.4 hectares, located in the Hoa Lac urban area planning.

The Hanoi People's Committee assigned the Department of Planning and Architecture to check and confirm the drawings. The Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board is in charge of announcing the planning and setting up boundary markers. The People's Committees of wards and communes where the route passes through will be responsible for managing boundary markers and land according to the planning.
