Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long received the Swedish Secretary of State, Deputy Minister of Climate and Business

On November 4, 2025, at the Headquarters of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long had a meeting with Ms. Sara Modig, Secretary of State, Deputy Minister of Climate and Enterprise of the Kingdom of Sweden, who was on a working visit to Vietnam.

Also attending the reception with the Deputy Minister were representatives of the leaders of units under the Ministry of Industry and Trade : Department of Foreign Market Development, Department of Electricity, Department of Innovation, Green Transformation and Industrial Promotion, Department of Oil, Gas and Coal.

Deputy Minister Sara Modig's visit aims to further strengthen the substantive relationship between Vietnam and Sweden, realizing the cooperation desires of the two sides, as demonstrated by the Memorandum of Understanding on Economic, Trade and Green Development Cooperation between the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sweden, handed over by Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long to Mr. Hakan Jevrell, Secretary of State, Ministry of International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sweden within the framework of the official visit to the Kingdom of Sweden by Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan in December 2024.

At the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long shared the sustainable development goals of the Vietnamese Government in the fields of industry, energy, and green transformation. Over the past time, Vietnam has made impressive strides in its development journey, transforming itself into a dynamic economy , expected to achieve 8% GDP growth by 2025 and towards double digits in the coming years. Vietnam is increasingly asserting its active role in ASEAN, along with deep participation in United Nations activities and major trade agreements, demonstrating Vietnam's growing influence and commitment to global cooperation. Swedish partners in particular and European partners in general are always welcome to implement offshore wind power development projects and develop smart grid systems.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long proposed that the two sides study the possibility of signing an energy cooperation framework, focusing on areas such as developing green and clean energy sources, enhancing cooperation in developing small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs), and cooperation in exploiting and using rare earth resources.

For her part, Deputy Minister Sara Modig affirmed that Sweden is ready to stand side by side with Vietnam in implementing sustainable goals. As a leading country in Europe and the world in the field of green energy, Sweden is well-positioned to support Vietnam in transitioning to a low-carbon economy through investment, technology transfer and policy dialogue, especially in renewable energy, grid modernization and clean technology. The Deputy Minister introduced a number of typical Swedish enterprises operating in the energy sector who were present at the meeting such as Hitachi Energy VietNam, Comsys, Unipower and hoped that in the coming time, the two sides will jointly study the possibility of establishing feasible cooperation mechanisms between Vietnamese agencies and units with prestigious and experienced Swedish agencies and organizations in supporting Vietnam in transitioning to energy towards sustainable and equitable development.

On this occasion, Deputy Minister Sara Modig introduced and invited the leaders of the Ministry of Industry and Trade to attend the Energy and Digital World Event: Modernizing Vietnam's Electricity Infrastructure for a Sustainable Future, taking place in early December 2025. The event was organized by the Embassy of Sweden and the Swedish Trade Office, in coordination with specialized agencies of Vietnam, to promote technical exchange and policy dialogue, aiming to strengthen cooperation in the field of electricity infrastructure modernization between Vietnam and Sweden.

In the context of the world facing unfavorable geopolitical conditions as present, Sweden has launched an investment and trade development strategy, focusing on the Asian region, and the main content is that Sweden especially values ​​and places Vietnam in an important position in its commodity supply chain. Vietnam is also Sweden's largest import partner in Southeast Asia, bilateral turnover is always stable and growing steadily over the years.

In 2024, according to statistics from the Vietnam Customs Department, two-way import-export turnover will reach 1.473 billion USD (up 14.3% compared to 2022), of which exports will reach 1.045 billion USD (up 10.5%) and imports will reach 427.6 million USD (up 25%). Sweden also ranked 23rd out of 152 countries and territories investing in Vietnam with 111 valid projects, total investment capital of 1,760.3 million USD. There are currently more than 70 Swedish companies such as ABB, AstraZeneca, Ericsson, Electrolux, H&M, IKEA, TetraPak, Hitachi Energy... operating in Vietnam in the fields of energy, telecommunications, healthcare and infrastructure, promoting innovation and creating jobs.
