This is an event to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Liberation of Binh Dinh Province (March 31, 1975 - March 31, 2025), towards celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Complete Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Tuan Thanh said that the Phu Phong Dam Project is a large irrigation project, of great importance to the socio -economic development of Binh Dinh province; the project aims to ensure and proactively provide irrigation water for 465 hectares of agricultural land and the needs for daily life, industrial production, aquaculture, improve the ecological environment, enhance the value of historical relics in the area, create momentum for the development of tourism and service industries, contributing to the sustainable development of the local economy. At the same time, the project also supplements groundwater resources, connects traffic in the area and utilizes the water flowing through the dam downstream to generate electricity, with a capacity of 2.9MW.

Phu Phong Dam is built on Kon River, including the following items: Main dam on the river is 590m long; Traffic bridge on the dam is 590m long, 10m wide; Upstream and downstream embankments are 5.58 km long; Irrigation canal is 7.5km long; Rainwater collection system is 2.61 km long; Connecting road from the dam to National Highway 19B is 2.26 km long; Operation management road is 2.94 km long; Management house and operation power system.

The project has a total investment cost of 738 billion VND, from the central budget of 550 billion VND and the provincial budget of 188 billion VND. The dam construction will start in early 2022 and be completed on September 30, 2024, 3 months ahead of schedule.

On behalf of the provincial leaders, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Tuan Thanh expressed his thanks to the Government, the Prime Minister , ministries and central branches for their attention and support for investment funding, along with the departments and branches in the province and units: investors, design consultants, construction contractors, etc. for their efforts and contributions to the project's early completion and operation. At the same time, he requested the Tay Son District People's Committee and Binh Dinh Irrigation Works Exploitation Company Limited, which are the units receiving the project's items, to properly perform their responsibilities in managing, operating and maintaining the project so that the project is sustainable and maximizes its effectiveness.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized the importance of Phu Phong dam for the sustainable socio-economic development of the locality. In particular, the project is even more meaningful when it is built near the Tay Son Tam Kiet temple and completed on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Binh Dinh province (March 31, 1975 - March 31, 2025). The project's completion will ensure proactive irrigation water for 465 hectares of agricultural land and the needs for daily life and industrial production; aquaculture; supplement groundwater sources, improve the ecological environment; enhance the value of historical sites in the area; connect traffic; create momentum for the development of tourism and service industries; create jobs and livelihoods for people.

The Prime Minister acknowledged and appreciated the spirit of self-reliance and creativity of the Party Committee, government and people of Binh Dinh in recent years, especially in developing transport and cultural infrastructure as well as irrigation reservoir projects, including the Phu Phong dam.

The Prime Minister requested the province to effectively and sustainably exploit the Phu Phong dam and reservoir; maximize the project's functions in flood drainage, water supply for daily life, production, water retention in the dry season, and at the same time deploy tourism services, services around the area or aquaculture; completely complete the settlement of accounts, prevent corruption, negativity and waste; continue to care about the lives of affected people, have given up land for the project and mobilize people to participate in protecting and effectively exploiting the project, bringing benefits to people, businesses and localities./.
