(CLO) French Prime Minister Francois Bayrou on Wednesday overcame two no-confidence votes in parliament , paving the way for the passage of the much-delayed 2025 budget.
The no-confidence vote was called by the hard left, but failed after the far-right National Front and the centre-left Socialist Party did not support the moves.
In total, 128 lawmakers voted in favor of the first move and 122 voted in favor of the second, far short of the required 289 votes.

Far-left lawmakers have tabled two motions of no confidence in the French prime minister after he invoked special constitutional powers to pass the 2025 budget.
France has been in political turmoil since President Emmanuel Macron decided to call a snap election in June, a move that resulted in a hung parliament with no party holding a majority.
The survival of Mr Bayrou's government would be a boost for Mr Macron, who has faced calls to resign since mid-last year but has insisted he will stay in office until the end of his term, which is due to end in 2027.
The budget dispute, which rocked markets and cost Mr Bayrou his predecessor, Michel Barnier, just three months into his term, aimed to reduce the deficit, raise taxes on big companies and the rich, and cut spending.
"This budget is not perfect. This is an urgent step because our country cannot live without a budget," Mr Bayrou told lawmakers before the vote.
