Vietnamese and Thai Prime Ministers witness agreement to transfer 50 Boeing aircraft to Vietjet Thailand

Vietjet and Boeing have just signed a cooperation agreement with Vietjet Thailand on the transfer of 50 Boeing 737 aircraft to Vietjet Thailand, contributing to the development of tourism economy connecting Thailand and Vietnam as well as other countries in the region.

The event took place with the participation of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, within the framework of the first official visit by a Thai Prime Minister to Vietnam in more than a decade.

According to the agreement, Vietjet will transfer 50 Boeing 737 aircraft to Vietjet Thailand under the contract to purchase 200 aircraft signed between Vietjet and Boeing. The first aircraft will be delivered in October 2025, helping Vietjet Thailand strongly expand its domestic and international flight network, especially connecting destinations between Vietnam and Thailand.

“We are proud to partner with Vietjet and Vietjet Thailand to expand Boeing 737 operations in Vietnam and Thailand,” said Penny Burtt, president of Boeing Regional Operations. “Together, we aim to connect communities and drive economic development, paving the way for a prosperous future in Vietnam, Thailand and Southeast Asia, a region with dynamic growth.”

“The delivery of 50 modern and efficient Boeing 737-8 aircraft to Vietjet Thailand is Vietjet’s long-term commitment to the sustainable development of the regional aviation industry. We will take action to implement the ‘Three Connectivity’ strategy between the two countries – including connecting supply chains, businesses and localities,” said Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, Chairwoman of Vietjet Group at the event.

In addition, Boeing also provides a comprehensive technical service support package to Vietjet Thailand, including pilot and engineer training, maintenance and product services, to ensure the new fleet is put into safe and efficient operation in the Thai market.

The new cooperation agreement marks a new step forward in the extensive and effective cooperation between Vietnamese, Thai and US businesses, with common priorities for digital transformation, sustainable development and narrowing the development gap between countries.

Vietjet Thailand was established in 2014, is a new generation airline, Vietjet's joint venture in Thailand, demonstrating the results of ASEAN aviation economic cooperation.

Vietjet Thailand has continuously expanded its fleet and flight network, becoming one of the most dynamic airlines in the Thai market, loved by the people and tourists of the Golden Temple country.

Headquartered at Suvarnabhumi International Airport (Bangkok), Thai Vietjet currently operates 33 domestic and international routes, connecting Thailand's economic and tourism centers with Vietnam, Japan, China, India, Cambodia and many other countries in the region. The airline has served more than 30 million passengers, contributing positively to the development of tourism, trade and cooperation in the ASEAN region, especially between Vietnam and Thailand.
