Promoting cultural and educational exchanges between Vietnam and Brunei

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025) and to promote friendly cooperation and people-to-people exchange activities, on April 17, the Vietnamese Embassy coordinated with the University of Brunei Darussalam (UBD) to organize the Vietnam - Brunei Friendship Concert in the capital city of Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam.

In his opening speech, Vietnamese Ambassador to Brunei Tran Anh Vu emphasized the significance of the historic event of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification and shared Vietnam's socio -economic achievements over the past 50 years. With the important results achieved, Vietnam is entering a new era of development to realize the aspiration of building a prosperous country and deeply integrating into the world, actively contributing to peace, cooperation and development around the world.

Ambassador Tran Anh Vu highly appreciated the development of the Vietnam - Brunei Comprehensive Partnership in recent years, in which bilateral trade cooperation in 2024 reached more than 650 million USD, more than double that of 2023. With the support of agencies of the two countries, the Vietnamese language teaching program at UBD has so far attracted hundreds of Bruneian students to participate and is a highlight ofeducational cooperation, culture and people-to-people exchange between the two sides. In addition, the Ambassador also highly appreciated the effective participation of the Vietnamese community and businesses in activities promoting the country's image in the locality in recent times, believing that the community and businesses will play an increasingly active role in promoting friendly cooperation between the two countries in the coming time.

Attending the program, Dr. Hazri bin Kifle, Vice President of UBD University, emphasized the importance of education and understanding of language and culture as the key to success in today's multicultural world . UBD University values ​​the results of the Vietnamese language teaching program implemented by the school since 2022, especially in promoting exchanges and understanding of Vietnamese culture from Bruneian students. In recent years, UBD University has been honored to welcome high-ranking Vietnamese delegations to visit the school and exchange with Bruneian students to learn Vietnamese, especially welcoming the delegation of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh during his official visit to Brunei in February 2023.

Vietnamese and Bruneian artists brought high-quality performances to the program. Violinist Trinh Minh Hien, pianist My Dung and opera artist Nguyen Khac Hoa performed many classic and famous pieces such as O Sole Mio, Truong Ca Song Lo, Chiec Khan Pieu... which received enthusiastic response from Bruneian audiences.

During the program, Vietnamese and Brunei artists performed the song Vietnam - Brunei The Lasting Friendship, praising the good friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

Another highlight of the program is the active participation of Vietnamese enterprises in promoting cultural and educational exchanges and community activities in Brunei. Mr. Vu Viet Toan, Director of External Relations of Hai Duong Petroleum Maritime Joint Stock Company (HADUCO) said that as a Vietnamese oil and gas service enterprise, it is strongly expanding into international markets, including Brunei. HADUCO decided to sponsor Bruneian students with excellent academic results in the Vietnamese language teaching program at UBD to participate in cultural experiences and exchanges in Vietnam in the coming time, thereby contributing to bridging the friendship between the youth of the two countries.

Also at the program, HADUCO Company transferred the charitable donation to the representative of Pusat Ehsan, a prestigious non-profit organization specializing in supporting children and people in difficult circumstances in Brunei.

The program received enthusiastic response and participation from government agencies and diplomatic missions in Brunei, along with a large number of lecturers and students of UBD, friends, partners and representatives of businesses and the Vietnamese community in Brunei.
