Open direction for marine economic development
According to the Vinh Long Provincial Party Committee, the marine economy continues to be identified as one of the key driving forces to promote rapid and sustainable growth for the region. Tra Vinh and Ben Tre (old) have proactively issued and implemented programs and plans for marine economic development in the 2021-2025 period, with a vision to 2030 and a vision to 2045; integrating the development of marine space with the exploitation of renewable energy and fisheries potential.
The province is currently operating a total commercial capacity of 5,416MW of electricity. The province has 130km of coastline that has been planned to add 2,900MW of wind power and 150MW of solar power by 2030. In addition, the potential for developing about 1,000MW of offshore wind power has been surveyed and assessed by the Institute of Energy (Ministry of Industry and Trade), promising to form a large-scale renewable energy center of the country in the future...
According to the Provincial Economic Zone Management Board, Dinh An Economic Zone is currently planned with an area of 39,020 hectares, a multi-sector, multi-field coastal economic zone such as: renewable energy, logistics, shipbuilding and repair, industrial production, trade, services, agriculture-forestry-fishery...
Assessing the development potential, Head of the Provincial Economic Zone Management Board - Nguyen Van Phuong said that Dinh An Economic Zone is located adjacent to the sea and two large river mouths of the Mekong River system (Dinh An and Cung Hau), which can build an international seaport; creating great potential for the area in terms of waterway and maritime transportation and exploitation of marine resources.
Thereby, creating great potential for the region in terms of waterway and maritime transport and exploitation of marine resources. Meanwhile, Tra Vinh Canal is a shortcut from the East Sea to Hau River for 20,000DWT ships that has been put into operation since 2017; meeting the demand for import and export of goods by sea, contributing to the socio-economic development of the whole region.
Currently, Dinh An general port area is under construction with a scale of more than 125 hectares to receive 30,000-50,000-ton ships (with the ability to increase to receive 100,000-160,000-ton ships), operating capacity of 4 million tons/year and a 90,000m³ oil storage tank (capacity of 100,000-110,000 m³/year). In addition, the province is currently interested in researching planning and investing in the construction of large bridges connecting coastal routes and deep-water seaports,...
According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vinh (University of Economics, Ho Chi Minh City), one of the province's great potentials is to comprehensively develop marine economic sectors - a strategic pillar after the merger. In particular, Tra Vinh port cluster combined with logistics and logistics zones will enhance direct import and export capacity, reduce transportation costs and goods circulation time.
Coastal industrial zones and clusters associated with Duyen Hai Economic Zone form the foundation for seafood processing, electricity-energy, mechanical engineering and construction materials industries. Renewable energy, especially offshore wind power and solar power, are being heavily invested in Duyen Hai and Binh Dai, playing an important role in implementing Vietnam's commitment to zero net emissions by 2050. In addition, the continental shelf of Tra Vinh and Ben Tre also has potential oil, gas and geothermal resources, opening up the possibility of developing new energy in the future.
Developing marine industries
According to the Provincial Economic Zone Management Board, in the coming time, it will focus on developing a number of areas to serve the development of the marine economy and logistics. Specifically, developing the renewable energy sector and new marine economic sectors.
In addition, the province will review the aquaculture area, develop the coastal aquaculture area in an industrial direction, apply high technology, adapt to climate change, focusing on key aquaculture species. At the same time, expand the aquaculture area associated with tourism and forest protection.
In addition, upgrade and expand Dinh An Fishing Port services, restore My Long and Dong Hai seafood processing villages. Establish and develop cooperatives and fishing logistics cooperatives at sea to purchase, consume, and process seafood according to the value chain to improve the quality and increase the value of caught seafood, while providing essential logistics to help fleets stay at sea for long periods.

According to the Head of the Provincial Economic Zone Management Board - Nguyen Van Phuong, by 2026, we strive to complete the planning of functional areas of Dinh An Economic Zone and promote calling for investors.
“The province will focus on developing service industries and marine services. At the same time, it will utilize community resources for eco-tourism; develop tourist clusters on the Co Chien River and Ba Dong Sea in the tourism corridor, combined with coastal corridors for sea tours to visit mangrove forests, wind power projects, solar power plants, and fishing villages. In addition, it will develop some types of sea tourism services and community tourism. In particular, it will call for investment in high-speed tourist boats on the Dinh An-Con Dao and Dinh An-Vung Tau routes,” said Mr. Phuong.
