Thai Nguyen - Land of tradition and aspiration
Mr. Dinh Quang An, former member of the Standing Committee, Head of the Organization Committee of Thai Nguyen Provincial Party Committee. |
Born in the early years of national independence, I only heard about the August Revolution through the stories of my father and grandfather and historical witnesses. But the greatest fortune in my life was growing up in Thai Nguyen, which used to be a revolutionary base, the capital of resistance, and a place that marked many important events of the nation.
During more than 60 years of standing in the ranks of the Party, attached to two professions : education and cadre organization work, what I have always kept in mind is: All successes originate from people. As Uncle Ho once advised, cadres are the root of all work.
Looking back at history, each generation of Vietnam has a sacred mission on its shoulders. The generation that won independence in 1945 were great people, willing to sacrifice everything for freedom. The generation that fought against the French and the Americans to protect the border continued that spirit, dedicating their youth and intelligence to the Fatherland. Millions of people died so that the country could have today.
Today, Thai Nguyen has many advantages: Transportation, industry, tourism, and forest economy are all developing strongly. But to move quickly and in the right direction, the key is to have timely decisions, social governance based on the law and in accordance with the people's wishes, and at the same time build a team of worthy cadres. When the people's trust is strengthened, it will be an unlimited strength, continuing the echoes of the old independent autumn.
The song never fades
Poet Tran Cau, Thai Nguyen Provincial Literature and Arts Association. |
I cannot forget the first school year after Independence Day. That day, the teacher read us the letter Uncle Ho sent to students on the opening day of the new school year. I was still young and did not fully understand Uncle Ho’s words, but I clearly felt the sacredness and emotion. From that moment, I knew that my country had turned a new page.
My hometown is Hung Yen. Later, when I was a soldier, I went through many campaigns, including the world-shaking Dien Bien Phu. In 1959, I left the army, then returned to Thai Nguyen to work and have been there until today. When I arrived, the whole province only had one small "enterprise" specializing in weaving mats. Yet now, Thai Nguyen has developed spectacularly, becoming a major industrial and educational center of the whole country.
Of the 182 published poems, 73 were written about my two hometowns: Hung Yen - where I was born and raised, and Thai Nguyen - where I lived, worked and built my family's happiness. For Thai Nguyen alone, I wrote 56 poems. Because for me, my homeland is not only my birthplace, but also the place where I am attached to, share with, and witness the ups and downs of the country. That is why I always consider Thai Nguyen as my second hometown, the hometown of love and loyalty.
Now, when I see the young generation enthusiastically starting businesses and dedicating themselves to the community, I believe that the August source will continue to flow. Independence today is no longer about taking up arms and going to war, but about maintaining sovereignty, developing the country, and making the Fatherland famous through knowledge and creativity.
Every brush stroke is a tribute

Every National Day, September 2, the streets of Thai Nguyen as well as the whole country are filled with flags, banners, and propaganda posters with bright and cheerful colors. Thai Nguyen artists, with their sensitivity and civic responsibility, have joined the whole country in creating and promoting paintings that are oriented towards the Fatherland.
For me personally, every time August comes, a very special feeling arises in me. It is not only the pride of a brilliant milestone in the history of the nation, the August Revolution and National Day September 2, but also an endless source of creative inspiration, motivating me to hold a brush and a pen to record that heroic spirit through colors and shapes. Each work is not only an artistic message, but also a deep gratitude to the generations of ancestors who sacrificed for the country to have today.
The art of painting is the bridge that connects people today with the great past of the nation. In each propaganda painting, each billboard, each strong contrasting color block is the crystallization of the belief, the desire for independence and the indomitable spirit of the Vietnamese people.
History gets closer when it touches emotions
Dr. Duong Thi Huyen, University of Science - Thai Nguyen University. |
As a researcher and lecturer of history for 15 years, every time I mention the August Revolution, I always feel full of pride and deep emotion. The August Revolution in 1945 and National Day September 2 are two brilliant milestones in the flow of national history, symbols of the strength of national unity, of the aspiration for independence, freedom and the indomitable will of the Vietnamese people.
I always consider teaching about the August Revolution not only as a professional subject, but also as an inspirational mission. That event transformed our country from a colony to an independent nation, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, a turning point of historical significance not only for Vietnam but also for the national liberation movement around the world.
What always moves me when I talk about that moment is the spirit of unity of the nation. In the midst of hunger and cold, millions of people still stood up to the call of the Party and Uncle Ho, to take control of the country's destiny.
The August Revolution and National Day September 2nd are always reminders to today’s generation of the responsibility to preserve and promote the values that our ancestors exchanged with blood and tears. For me, that is the motivation to continue researching, teaching, and passing on the love of history to today’s generation of students, who will follow the path of building and defending the Fatherland.
Bridge between memories and aspirations
Meritorious Artist Mai Thanh, Deputy Director of Thai Nguyen Province Ethnic Art Troupe. |
When assigned the task of building, choreographing, and staging art programs to celebrate the country's important holidays in general, and the August Revolution and National Day 2-9 in particular, I always tell myself: How can the audience not only hear and see, but also relive the heroic spirit of the nation, of the historic Autumn?
In each scene, I chose images that recreate historical moments that are still imprinted in the minds of many Thai Nguyen people, such as: The Vietnam Liberation Army led by Comrade Vo Nguyen Giap marched to Thai Nguyen town, on August 19, arriving at Thinh Dan. At Dan pagoda, Comrade Vo Nguyen Giap announced the battle plan and assigned tasks to the units.
What I am concerned about is how to make the audience, especially the younger generation, feel that the August Revolution is the crystallization of the intelligence, bravery and desire for freedom of the entire nation. Therefore, in many choral performances, I often bring the climax to coincide with lyrics that make everyone who listens feel moved: "August 19/ The light of freedom is brought/ Flags are flying everywhere, thousands of golden stars...".
For me, these programs are not just art performances. They are semi-epic long poems, combining singing, dancing, music, animation and commentary, thereby honoring the revolutionary spirit, the identity of the land, praising the leadership of the Party and beloved Uncle Ho. Each program is a bridge connecting memories and aspirations, so that the spirit of the independent Autumn continues to spread in today's life.
Inspire in every lesson

There are few countries in the world that have had to go through as many struggles against foreign invaders as the Vietnamese people. To gain "independence and freedom", our ancestors fought steadfastly, sacrificing their lives and youth, and shedding their blood in the national flag. "The Vietnamese army marches with the same heart to save the country/ The Vietnamese army marches, the golden star flutters" - the Vietnamese national anthem sounds so sacred and proud.
Under the leadership of the Party and beloved Uncle Ho, our people rose up to fight. In a short time, the August Revolution of 1945 succeeded throughout the country. At the historic Ba Dinh Square, President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.
80 years have passed, today's generation needs to feel the spirit of the August Revolution to spread patriotism and national pride to future generations. As a history teacher, I always try to pass on the flame of patriotism to my students, showing them that every Vietnamese citizen is a part of our beloved Fatherland.
I combine information exploitation in books with electronic platforms, visiting and experiencing real life through commemorative activities, revolutionary songs, actively learning about historical and cultural relics associated with the August Revolution in Thai Nguyen, so that the children can appreciate the value of independence and freedom and continue writing the story of peace for the nation.
Steps in harmony with the heart
Mr. Luu Van Bich, Platoon 1, Company 1, Parade Battalion. |
I feel extremely proud to be selected to participate in the parade to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2. This is a major event of the country, an opportunity for every Vietnamese citizen to look back on the glorious history, honor the sacred values of independence and freedom.
For me, walking in unison across Ba Dinh Square on a big holiday is a great honor, an unforgettable moment in my life. Before that, from June 6, 2025, we entered a serious training period.
We started practicing at 6am and worked tirelessly to ensure that our formation was even, beautiful, and precise in every movement. In the morning, we practiced standing at attention and aligning each line, and in the afternoon, we practiced walking in unison. In the sweltering summer sun, sweat soaked our backs and our limbs were exhausted, but everyone was determined to complete the task well.
There are times when I am tired, but I tell myself that this is the responsibility and honor of a militia soldier. Every step I take not only demonstrates discipline and collective strength, but also affirms that the Militia and Self-Defense Force is always ready to contribute to protecting the Fatherland and building the homeland.
The younger generation continues the tradition
Student To Minh Hieu, Literature class K57B, Faculty of Literature, Thai Nguyen University of Education. |
For today’s young generation, especially pedagogical students, the August Revolution is not only a golden page of history to be proud of but also a profound reminder of the responsibility of succession. That spirit instills in us belief in ideals, a sense of autonomy, and the desire to contribute our intelligence and youth to the country. As a student of the Faculty of Literature, I realize that my responsibility is to learn professional knowledge and sow the seeds of ideology, love for the Vietnamese language and national culture for future generations of students.
As a young party member, I am more aware of my duty to live a worthy life, to be steadfast in my ideals, and to spread the spirit of the August Revolution in every action. We were born when the country was at peace, but every time I read the pages of history, I still feel moved. The victory in the fall of 1945 demonstrated the strength of patriotism, the great solidarity of the people, and the undying desire for freedom.
The spirit of August not only belongs to the past but is also a shining flame today, adding motivation for the young generation to bring knowledge and enthusiasm to build a rich and civilized homeland.
