Ten days after the Miss Universe Vietnam 2024 final night, Hoang Xuan Thuyen, a student at Dong Chieu Secondary School ( Binh Duong province), still vividly remembers the moment when the new Miss Universe Vietnam, Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen, wore the crown that Thuyen designed, and the two posed for photos together.

Participating in a major competition for the first time, Thuyen admitted it was a rather risky but also exciting move. The young student said he had been dreaming of participating in the competition for two years. As soon as the Miss Universe Vietnam 2024 organizers launched the crown design competition for the new queen, Thuyen asked his family for permission to participate.

"Although I haven't had any formal design training, I'm not worried because I'm participating in the competition to gain experience. There are many famous designers in the competition, and this is an opportunity for me to meet everyone," Thuyen humbly shared.

Speaking about her passion for design, Thuyen said she "fell in love" with the profession when she entered junior high school. Through school competitions such as the Young Innovators Contest, Career Guidance Experiences, and participation in the Art Club activities, Thuyen discovered her interests and passion.

Outperforming many experienced designers, the 13-year-old student won the crown design competition for the new Miss Universe Vietnam 2024.

Thuyen learned to draw and searched for inspiration on YouTube. After school, Thuyen spent time practicing drawing, which was also when he felt most relaxed. The student came up with ideas, then sketched drafts on paper, and finally completed the drawings on his iPad.

The young designer said the winning crown, titled "Million Dollar Mission," is worth 24 million VND. The crown was designed in about 10 days, with its main inspiration based on Vietnamese cultural heritage.

"I love my homeland, my country, and the place where I live and study. That's why the crown was designed based on Vietnam's cultural and historical heritage, aiming to honor the nation's fine traditions, connect the present with the past, and affirm the values ​​of history and its enduring nature," Thuyen said.

The crown consists of a main stone symbolizing the new Miss Universe, and 10 smaller stones representing the 10 schools that will be built during the new Miss Universe's term.

After the competition, Thuyen received much praise and support from his family and school. In addition, the male student unexpectedly became a "TikTok idol" with a rapidly increasing number of fans.

Thuyen regularly participates in school-organized activities.

Mr. Bui Nam Hai, Thuyen's homeroom teacher, said that the competition was held during the summer break, so it did not affect her studies at all. It was also an opportunity for Thuyen to gain confidence and learn more.

"I've been teaching her since 6th grade. She's very well-behaved and respectful to her teachers, and actively participates in school activities. In the new school year, Thuyen was elected class vice-president. Being cheerful and energetic, Thuyen is loved by many of her friends," commented teacher Hai.

Although passionate about design, Thuyen's dream job in the future has nothing to do with art. Thuyen smiled and whispered, "I will try my best to study hard so that I can become a politician or a TV presenter/host in the future."
