Ngày mới OnlineNgày mới Online18/02/2025

With the spirit of "Elderly people - Shining examples," in recent times, the elderly in Yen Bai province have always demonstrated their role and responsibility in all aspects of social life, contributing to building cultural life in residential areas and becoming shining examples for the younger generation to learn from and emulate.

Elderly officials and members actively encourage their children, grandchildren, and the people to strictly adhere to the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's laws and regulations, and local customs and regulations. They also contribute their efforts and intellect to exemplary roles in building the Party, government, the Fatherland Front, and other organizations. According to statistics, the province has 3,667 elderly people holding positions such as Party branch secretaries and deputy secretaries; village and neighborhood heads and deputy heads; heads and deputy heads of Fatherland Front committees; heads of various organizations; and hundreds of elderly people participating in people's security teams and grassroots mediation teams.

In order to preserve and promote the traditional cultural values and identity of ethnic groups, cadres and members of the Elderly Association have encouraged artisans to open classes to pass on their skills, teach literacy, and teach ethnic dances and songs to the younger generation. Many elderly people are members of the Front Committee, mass organizations, neighborhood groups, and mediation groups, always closely involved with the local community, closely connected with the people, and working together to build national unity, promptly resolving minor conflicts within the people, ensuring political security and social order, and maintaining peaceful lives. On the other hand, the elderly proactively educate the people, their children, and families to preserve ethnic cultural identity, fight to change previously incorrect perceptions, and eliminate backward customs such as demanding dowry when marrying in ethnic minority communities, the belief that one must have a son to continue the family lineage, wedding ceremonies, funerals, fortune telling, etc.

The "Elderly People Excelling in Economic Activities " emulation movement has created a strong ripple effect, giving rise to many exemplary elderly people excelling in production and business. Currently, the province has 659 elderly members directly involved in production and business; many of them own high-tech agricultural farms, organic cinnamon plantations, livestock facilities, and businesses in various fields such as industry, construction, handicrafts, services, and trade, providing regular employment for thousands of local workers.

In response to the National Target Program for building new rural areas and civilized urban areas, the elderly have contributed thousands of man-days, hundreds of billions of dong, and donated thousands of square meters of land to build a new life, their homeland, and villages, joining hands with the province to build communes and districts that meet the standards of new rural areas according to the plan.

Activities related to caring for the elderly have always received attention and yielded many positive results. The Elderly Associations at all levels, in coordination with local Party committees, authorities, the Fatherland Front, various departments, and organizations, have mobilized businesses to organize thoughtful, economical, and civilized birthday celebrations for the elderly during the Lunar New Year. During the "Month of Action for the Elderly in Vietnam" in 2024, the Provincial Elderly Association directed the Elderly Associations in districts, towns, and cities to develop plans to mobilize agencies, units, and businesses in their areas to contribute funds to organize visits and tặng 6,373 gifts to poor elderly people, those in difficult circumstances, lonely elderly people without support, and those who are sick or ill.

Mr. Hoang Duc Que, Chairman of the Provincial Association of Elderly People, said: “In the coming time, the Association will organize activities to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Association of Elderly People (May 10th); organize the competition “Happy Elderly People in the Family” from the grassroots level to the districts, towns, and cities; from there, select and form the provincial team to participate in the national competition and the 7th Provincial Elderly People's Volleyball Tournament.”
