North Korea's National Tourism Administration has announced a temporary ban on foreign tourists visiting Wonsan-Kalma, a resort on the east coast of the country with many high-rise hotels and a water park that can accommodate about 20,000 people and opened earlier this month.
It is not yet clear why North Korea has temporarily stopped welcoming international visitors to Wonsan-Kalma - known as "North Korea's tourist paradise Waikiki."
However, according to analysts, due to limited flight capacity, the number of international tourists to North Korea is expected to be limited.
Earlier, North Korean media reported that Russian tourist groups are expected to visit Wonsan-Kalma in the coming months, and Russia announced that it will double the frequency of weekly flights between Moscow and Pyongyang.
In recent times, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has paid great attention to promoting the development of tourism in the country, especially coastal tourist areas. Last year, North Korea allowed Russian tourists to return to the country for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic./.
