General Secretary To Lam highly appreciated the Ambassador's active contributions to promoting the Vietnam-Philippines Strategic Partnership in recent times; emphasizing that 2025 is of special significance, marking the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and the Philippines;

The General Secretary expressed his delight at the positive and effective development of the Strategic Partnership between the two countries, both within the bilateral and multilateral frameworks; affirming that Vietnam always attaches importance to and wishes to strongly develop and soon bring the Strategic Partnership with the Philippines to a new, deeper and more comprehensive level.

For his part, Ambassador Montealegre expressed his honor to pay a visit to General Secretary To Lam; sent his congratulations to the Vietnamese people on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day and the upcoming 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (September 2); and expressed his admiration for the socio -economic achievements that Vietnam has made in recent times.

The General Secretary asked the Ambassador to pay attention to promoting a number of areas of bilateral cooperation, including: strengthening political and diplomatic cooperation through promoting exchanges and contacts at high and all levels; promoting economic connectivity, striving to soon bring two-way trade turnover to 10 billion USD; strengthening cooperation in the fields of security - defense, maritime and ocean cooperation; promoting cooperation in other areas such as culture, sports, tourism, education and training, climate change prevention, and minimizing the consequences of natural disasters.

Appreciating the effective and close coordination between the two countries at regional and international organizations and forums, especially the United Nations, ASEAN, APEC, ASEM, etc., the General Secretary affirmed that Vietnam will actively support the Philippines in successfully assuming the role of ASEAN Chair 2026 and will coordinate with the Philippines and other ASEAN countries to promote intra-bloc solidarity, promote ASEAN's central role, and move towards a united, self-reliant and sustainably developed ASEAN.

Ambassador Montealegre reported to the General Secretary on some outstanding results in bilateral cooperation, especially after the visit of Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to Vietnam in January 2024; thanked the General Secretary for his assessments and important recommendations for the bilateral relationship in the coming time;

The Ambassador affirmed that the Philippine Embassy will actively coordinate with relevant agencies of Vietnam to organize many practical and effective activities to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Strategic Partnership and the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2026, as well as make every effort to promote the Strategic Partnership between the two countries to develop more deeply, substantially and effectively in all fields./.
