US President said he spoke with Mr. Tap after taking office

He also emphasized: "We have a very good personal relationship." However, President Trump did not disclose the specific time of the call or the content discussed.

Last week, Mr. Trump said he was in no rush to speak with Mr. Xi to try to defuse a new trade war between the world’s two largest economies. The conversation between the two leaders is seen as crucial to the possibility of easing or delaying trade tariffs. The White House and China’s Foreign Ministry did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the interview.

Before his inauguration in January, Mr. Trump and Mr. Xi had a phone call, discussing issues such as TikTok, trade, and Taiwan. Recently, China imposed tariffs on some imported goods from the United States, after Mr. Trump announced an additional 10% tax on some imported products from China.
