According to KompasTV's live news report, Gegana Mobile Police and fire trucks (Damkar) were quickly deployed to the scene. Broadcast images showed the area around SMAN 72 blocked off with police cordons and ambulances on standby.
The explosion is believed to have originated from the mosque area of the school. A witness named Totong Koswara said: “At around 12 noon, just as I was preparing for Friday prayers, the explosion occurred. After the explosion, the fire quickly went out and everyone ran outside.”
Although the explosion injured many people, images from the scene showed that the mosque was not seriously damaged.
