On the afternoon of August 2, a representative of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City said that they had submitted a request to the City People's Committee for permission to recruit additional public grade 10 students for high schools that have not yet met their enrollment quota.
According to the proposed plan, the Department of Education and Training will publicize the remaining enrollment quota for grade 10 and the third-choice benchmark scores of each high school. Students who have failed all three choices to enter grade 10 in public schools in the 2023-2024 school year will be eligible to take additional admission to grade 10.
In particular, the student's exam score must be equal to or greater than the standard score of the third choice of the high school that the student is applying to. Each student will be allowed to register for 1 additional choice for public grade 10.
It is expected that the principal of the high school will establish a supplementary admissions council for his school and recruit until enough students are recruited.

This year, nearly 5,000 students were admitted to public grade 10 schools in Ho Chi Minh City but did not enroll. Schools with the highest dropout rates are in the suburbs, such as Nguyen Van Linh High School and Phong Phu High School (nearly 40%); Nguyen Van Tang High School, Binh Chanh Sports Gifted School, and Trung Lap High School (nearly 30%).
Most of the above schools recruit 700-900 students for grade 10. The standard score is also low, ranging from 10.5-11.75 points for the three subjects Math, Literature, and Foreign Language.
Even at top schools with high admission scores like Bui Thi Xuan High School in District 1, 40 students still did not enroll. In addition, Gia Dinh High School and Nguyen Huu Cau High School also had 16-19 students who did not enroll.
According to regulations, candidates who do not complete admission procedures before the deadline will have their names removed from the admission list.
The Ho Chi Minh City public 10th grade exam took place in early June with nearly 96,000 candidates taking the exam. Of these, about 77,300 students were admitted (80%). The remaining candidates can attend private high schools, vocationaleducation - continuing education centers or vocational colleges. These schools recruit about 55,000 students, mainly considering their academic records.
