Clear roles

The merger with Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau paves the way for Ho Chi Minh City to plan large-scale industrial and urban areas, increase land funds and become more attractive to international investors. A report from the Department of Industry and Trade shows that Ho Chi Minh City currently has about 90 industrial parks, export processing zones, high-tech parks and industrial clusters, with a total area of about 28,500 hectares, accounting for nearly 32% of the country's industrial land fund.

Mr. Bui Ta Hoang Vu, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City, said that the old Binh Duong area continues to affirm its role as a manufacturing center. The added value of the industry reached more than 324,000 billion VND, accounting for nearly 9% of the country. This is also where many global corporations such as LEGO, Pandora, Nitto Denko, Truong Hai choose to set up high-tech manufacturing facilities, focusing on exports and R&D.

The old Ba Ria - Vung Tau area owns the Cai Mep - Thi Vai deep-water port cluster, one of the largest ports in the world, which is an important import-export gateway of the whole country - this is a strategic advantage for developing the high-tech industrial supply chain. The old Ho Chi Minh City area continues to develop as a center of finance, trade, science and technology, innovation and education - training - this is also a convergence of international cooperation programs, research centers, innovation, and startup incubators.

Mr. David Jackson, General Director of Avison Young Vietnam, said that the merger creates conditions for the division of development roles, forming an industrial - service corridor connecting Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau. "This new structure both exploits the advantages of seaports and logistics, and resonates industrial production, thereby enhancing the position of the key southern region in the global value chain," said Mr. David Jackson.

Creating a new generation industrial park ecosystem

For many years, Ho Chi Minh City has not recorded any new industrial parks coming into operation. Instead, the City has focused on restructuring existing industrial parks towards modernity and sustainability.

Tan Tao Industrial Park is oriented to apply advanced technology, improve land use efficiency, and convert part of small-scale production facilities into green parks, trade services and high-tech industry. This industrial park is also adjusted to a high-tech model, gradually reducing small-scale production, prioritizing services for residents.

Hiep Phuoc Industrial Park and Tan Thuan Export Processing Zone are developed according to the logistics and high-tech model, taking advantage of the port and traffic, and connecting the urban areas of Doi Canal, Te Canal and Cho Lon. In the West, Le Minh Xuan and Pham Van Hai industrial parks will be expanded along with industrial clusters associated with Tan Kien logistics center, railway and Ring Road 3. In the North, Ho Chi Minh City plans to add more industrial parks along National Highway 22, Ring Road 3 - 4 and plan Binh Khanh (old Can Gio) to become a modern urban area, connecting with Nhon Trach (Dong Nai).

“In addition to expanding the area, Ho Chi Minh City also aims to improve the quality of investment and shift to high-value industries. The formation of industry clusters is expected to help optimize costs and increase operational efficiency,” said Mr. David Jackson.

In fact, in recent times, Ho Chi Minh City has recorded great interest from investors in the high-tech sector. For example, Avery Dennison Worldon Vietnam - a joint venture between Avery Dennison Group (USA) and Shenzhou Group (China) inaugurated a new factory in the Southeast Industrial Park. Or recently, Mr. Horst Pudwill, Chairman and Founder of Techtronic Industries Group (TTI) had a meeting with Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc about the production expansion plan of the Milwaukee Factory in Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Park (SHTP).
