Ho Chi Minh City organizes the first River Festival, unique show on Saigon River

From August 4 to 6, 2023, the Department of Tourism in coordination with the Department of Culture - Sports of Ho Chi Minh City and other departments and branches organized the Ho Chi Minh City River Festival. The festival was held for the first time to promote the image, land, people, cultural identity, tourism activities and typical cuisine of Ho Chi Minh City.

The festival will take place at Saigon Port - Cruise Passenger Port, Bach Dang Wharf Park, Nhieu Loc - Thi Nghe Canal area, Binh Dong Wharf and tourist areas and destinations in the area.

The highlight of the event is show "Saigon - The River Tells Stories" on the evening of August 6 at Saigon Port - Passenger Port with a scale of 6,000 seats. This is also the first live show of Ho Chi Minh City and the first time the historical story of Saigon - Gia Dinh - Ho Chi Minh City is told in 5 artistic chapters: Reclamation - Opening the land - On the wharf, under the boat - Pearl of the Far East - Brilliant city by the river.

Ms. Le Hai Yen, the program's general director, said that the show on the river will recreate the formation of nature and people through the development periods of Gia Dinh - Saigon - Ho Chi Minh City and the river is the heroic "witness".

The river festival aims to promote the image, land, people, cultural identity, tourism activities and typical cuisine of Ho Chi Minh City.

"I spent nearly a year traveling on the rivers, meeting 'Saigonologists' to listen to the historical stories of this land, from which the name 'Saigon - The Storytelling River' was born. The real scenes took place on a real river, a real trading port, real boats, real people, real settings and real stories with the most genuine emotions elevated to art", the general director shared.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Hoa, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, the River Festival not only promotes the history and cultural characteristics of the city but also exploits the values ​​of the city's river and sea resources, contributing to positioning the city's brand - a river city rich in cultural identity.

"The river festival is also an opportunity for travel and accommodation businesses to introduce tourism products and services to domestic and international tourists, while connecting river experiences and tours from Ho Chi Minh City to other places," Ms. Hoa shared.

The program opened at Thu Ngu Flagpole (District 1) on the morning of August 4.

- River parade (evening 4 - 6.8): brightly decorated boats parade along the riverbank from Saigon port to Landmark 81.

Ho Chi Minh City is located in the downstream of Dong Nai River and Saigon River, has a 23 km long coastline and a dense network of rivers and canals with a density of 3.38 km/km ² .
