The first case was a female patient with colon perforation due to a fish bone. The patient was urgently operated on by an inter-hospital team including surgeons and anesthesiologists from Binh Dan Hospital, with the support of doctors from Hung Vuong Hospital and Con Dao Medical Center, to remove the foreign object and create an artificial anus, saving the patient's life.
The second case was a male patient with peritonitis due to duodenal fistula (post-surgery) who was admitted to the hospital in a state of shock and severe anemia. After agreeing on the diagnosis and surgical plan through an online consultation with experts from Binh Dan Hospital and the Department of Health, the Director of Binh Dan Hospital immediately sent the head of the Digestive Surgery Department to Con Dao to perform the surgery with a team of doctors working in rotation in Con Dao. The surgery lasted for several hours, and the patient recovered from the critical stage.
Immediately after that, the team continued to face 3 other complicated emergency cases. Among them, a 26-year-old pregnant woman at 41 weeks pregnant had a safe cesarean section; a patient with necrotizing appendicitis had timely emergency laparoscopic surgery; a case of a fisherman who had an accident on a fishing boat was operated on and finished at midnight.
“The Department respectfully acknowledges and commends the high sense of responsibility, all for the sake of patients of the doctors who are rotating to work in Con Dao. The successful treatment of very serious and complicated cases right on the spot not only helps save the lives of patients but also brings people's trust, affirming the motto of "leaving no one behind" of the Ho Chi Minh City health sector," said the Ho Chi Minh City Health Department.
