Welcoming the silver medalist at the 66th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) at Tan Son Nhat Airport (HCMC) were Ms. Tran Thi Dieu Thuy, Vice Chairwoman of HCMC People's Committee, and leaders of the Department of Education and Training, Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted.
As soon as she welcomed the student who won the international award back from the competition, Ms. Tran Thi Dieu Thuy awarded a certificate of merit from the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and a bonus of 50 million VND to Le Phan Duc Man.
According to the regulations of Ho Chi Minh City on some incentive policies for teachers, students, and trainees who win prizes in national, regional, and international competitions and teachers who have achievements in training and nurturing students and trainees who win prizes in the city, with the silver medal results in international Olympic competitions, Le Phan Duc Man will also receive a bonus worth 160 million VND.
As Thanh Nien reported, Le Phan Duc Man, a 12th grade math student at Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted (HCMC), is the only representative from HCMC and the southern provinces selected to be on the team representing Vietnam to participate in the 2025 International Math Olympiad.
Le Phan Duc Man and 5 other students from Hanoi National University, Bac Ninh, Ha Tinh, and Nghe An provinces participated in the International Mathematical Olympiad - IMO 2025 held in Australia from July 10 to 20.

Ms. Pham Thi Be Hien, Principal of Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted, said that Duc Man is a student with a passion for learning math. The most prestigious international mathematics competition in the world had the participation of more than 639 candidates from 113 delegations representing countries and territories. As a result, 6/6 Vietnamese students won medals, including: 2 gold medals, 3 silver medals and 1 bronze medal.
Specifically, the two gold medals went to Vo Trong Khai, grade 12, Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted (Nghe An province) and Tran Minh Hoang, grade 12, Ha Tinh High School for the Gifted ( Ha Tinh province).
The three silver medals went to: Nguyen Dang Dung, grade 12, High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences, University of Natural Sciences (Vietnam National University, Hanoi); Nguyen Dinh Tung, grade 11, High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences, University of Natural Sciences (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) and Le Phan Duc Man, grade 12, Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted (HCMC). Truong Thanh Xuan, grade 11, Bac Ninh High School for the Gifted (Bac Ninh province) won the bronze medal.
According to the Ministry of Education and Training, with a total score of 188, the Vietnamese delegation ranked 9th out of 113 countries and territories participating in this year's competition, behind the delegations: China (1), the US (2), South Korea (3), Poland and Japan tied for 4th place, Israel (6), India (7), Singapore (8). Compared to the results in 2024 (2 silver medals, 3 bronze medals and 1 certificate of merit), the achievements of the Vietnamese delegation in 2025 were outstanding.
