According to the reporter of Tin Tuc and Dan Toc newspaper, during rush hour in the evening, Nguyen Tat Thanh street from Khanh Hoi bridge towards Tan Thuan 1 bridge and vice versa, the traffic was densely packed for hundreds of meters, moving slowly, making it extremely difficult for people to move around.

Mr. Nguyen Cuong, a truck driver, shared: "I go from Nguyen Van Linh Street to the center. Every time I go through Nguyen Tat Thanh Street, it is very difficult. Sometimes it takes almost half an hour to go just a few hundred meters, especially when it rains, it is almost jammed and impossible to move."

Currently, Nguyen Tat Thanh Street is only about 15 - 20 m wide with 4 two-way lanes. In the context of high traffic density, this street often experiences prolonged congestion, especially in the late afternoon, from 7 - 8 pm, causing fatigue for people going home from work as well as those moving to the city center. This is one of the streets that always tops the list of traffic jams in Ho Chi Minh City.

According to information from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, in the coming time, the City will invest about 2,950 billion VND to expand Nguyen Tat Thanh Street, a section about 2.5 km long along the West bank of the Saigon River (from Khanh Hoi Bridge to Tan Thuan 1 Bridge).

The project will upgrade the road surface to 6-8 lanes, build an underpass at Hoang Dieu intersection and replace Tan Thuan 1 bridge (which is now over 120 years old). When completed, the project will not only help reduce traffic pressure in the central area but also form a modern riverside landscape axis, directly connecting Ben Nha Rong - Tan Thuan bridge - Thu Thiem 4 bridge.
