Opening of the 17th Khmer Culture, Sports and Tourism Festival in An Giang province in 2025

On the morning of November 5, at the bank of Cai Lon River, Go Quao Commune, An Giang Provincial People's Committee held the opening ceremony of the 17th Khmer Cultural, Sports and Tourism Festival in An Giang Province in 2025. Attending the ceremony were Deputy Secretary of An Giang Provincial Party Committee Lam Minh Thanh; Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Trung Ho and departments, branches and sectors of the province.

The 17th Khmer Cultural, Sports and Tourism Festival of An Giang province in 2025 takes place from November 4 to 6 (September 15 to 17 of the lunar calendar), on the occasion of Ok Om Bok Festival - the biggest festival of the year for the Khmer people in the South.

The Ok Om Bok Festival is held at the end of the harvest season to show gratitude to the Moon - the natural god who helps people protect crops, regulate the weather, bring good fruits and prosperity to the village.

Deputy Secretary of An Giang Provincial Party Committee Lam Minh Thanh presented a souvenir flag to the Ngo boat racing team.

This year, the festival is organized with many activities of the ceremonial and festive parts, including: Moon worship ceremony; Trade fair and introduction of local products; display of images and artifacts of Khmer people; exhibition, display and introduction of books; Beautiful water-land frame contest; art performances and Khmer traditional art festival of An Giang province; sports activities, such as: Men's football competition, volleyball, Taekwondo, men's and mixed men's and women's Ngo boat racing.

Vice Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Le Trung Ho delivered the opening speech at the festival.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vice Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Le Trung Ho emphasized that the Khmer Cultural, Sports and Tourism Festival is a traditional cultural activity of great and practical significance to preserve, honor and promote the traditional cultural identity of the Khmer people in the province.

The festival is an opportunity for ethnic people in general and Khmer people in the South in particular to raise their sense of responsibility for traditional culture, consolidate the strength of the great national unity bloc, contribute to socio-economic development, strengthen national defense and security, and ensure the successful implementation of targets and tasks set out in the Resolutions of Party Congresses at all levels.

Vice Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Le Trung Ho affirmed that maintaining the organization of the annual festival demonstrates the Party and State's attention to preserving and developing the cultural values of the Khmer people in the country's integration trend.

Through the activities of the festival, it contributes to promoting the movement of the entire people uniting to build a cultural life, the whole country joining hands to build new rural areas, the movement of the entire people exercising following the example of great Uncle Ho; well implementing Resolution No. 33-NQ/TW, dated June 9, 2014 of the 11th Party Central Committee on building and developing Vietnamese culture and people to meet the requirements of sustainable development of the country.

After the opening ceremony, the festival held the 800m men's boat race, attracting many people and tourists to watch and cheer.
