Ho Chi Minh City: Pilot program to train students in advanced artificial intelligence.

On the afternoon of July 23rd, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Science and Technology (DST) organized a pilot program to provide training on artificial intelligence (AI) to over 200 students who had won awards in competitions in the city.

With artificial intelligence (AI) becoming a leading field with a strong impact on all aspects of life, economy , and society, cultivating and equipping students with knowledge about AI has become an urgent task.

Mr. Lam Dinh Thang, Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Ho Chi Minh City, expects that through organizing pilot training courses, the city can identify young talents early and nurture them in a timely manner, gradually forming a high-quality technology workforce, contributing to sustainable development and breakthroughs in science and technology in the locality.

“Ho Chi Minh City is orienting itself towards science and technology as a new driving force to promote sustainable development and growth in the coming period. The city has developed a strategy for the development of artificial intelligence from now until 2030, including: issuing policies, training human resources, building an ecosystem, and infrastructure related to AI… Currently, together with the Department of Science and Technology, the Department of Education and Training is also developing a standard curriculum framework on AI for application and teaching in schools and continuing education,” Mr. Thang added.

The Department of Science and Technology further stated that the opening ceremony will launch a series of training activities with four classes. Two of these classes are for junior high school students with the theme "Exploring AI with Python." The program focuses on basic programming knowledge, simple algorithms, and small AI application projects, helping students become familiar with technological thinking from an early age.

The remaining two classes are for high school students, with the theme "Python Programming and Practical Applications". Students will be introduced to AI models such as Machine Learning, data processing, problem-solving thinking development, and project presentation skills.

In total, 203 students were admitted, including 113 high school students and 90 middle school students. These students come from prestigious schools in the city such as: the High School for the Gifted, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM), Tran Dai Nghia Specialized High School, Le Hong Phong High School, Tran Phu Middle School, Le Quy Don Middle School, Saigon Practice School, and many other public, private, and international schools.
