The investment scale includes items to upgrade the irrigation canal system, works on the canal and non-construction items to complete the key irrigation infrastructure in the northwest of the city. The project's objective is to ensure safe and stable raw water supply for daily life and industry with a capacity of about 1 million m3 /day by 2045; at the same time, meet the water supply needs for aquaculture, livestock and irrigation for about 7,000-11,500 hectares of agricultural land by 2050. The project also contributes to increasing the sustainable drainage capacity for 5,835 hectares in the TCC1 canal system basin, reducing the risk of flooding and improving the urban ecological environment.
Currently, the Dong Cu Chi canal system has a total length of irrigation and drainage canals of about 630km, including 11km of main canal, 140km of type II canal (level 1 and 2), 480km of type III canal (level 3, 4 and intra-field) and more than 1,950 construction works of all kinds on the route. This is an important irrigation project, with the task of bringing raw water from Dau Tieng Lake ( Tay Ninh province) to Ho Chi Minh City, serving agricultural production, domestic water supply and intra-field traffic.
