HCMC: Heavy rain causes flooding in many places

On the afternoon of June 4, heavy rain lasted nearly 1 hour causing local flooding on many roads.

The rain started pouring down at around 2:12 p.m. in Thu Duc City, causing many roads to be unable to drain in time, making it very difficult for vehicles to move.

It was noted that on Vo Nguyen Giap Street, from the toll station in the direction from Dong Nai to Saigon Bridge, the water was more than half way up the wheel, forcing motorbikes to drive into the car lane, while due to the heavy rain, cars moved very slowly.

Nearby, Mai Chi Tho Street at An Phu intersection was flooded in many areas, especially the turn to Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh Expressway, where motorbike lanes were submerged more than half way down. From An Phu intersection towards Cat Lai overpass, water overflowed from manhole covers, causing flooding. Similarly, many streets such as Do Xuan Hop, Lien Phuong... were flooded, and people used sticks to remove trash from manhole covers to clear the flow.

In the western and southern districts of the city such as District 12, Go Vap, Binh Thanh, the situation is not better, many roads are flooded, traffic is chaotic.

According to the Southern and Central Highlands Hydrometeorological Station, thunderstorms are developing and causing rain with thunderstorms and lightning in Thu Duc City and districts 12, Binh Thanh, Go Vap, Hoc Mon and Cu Chi.

The weather forecast agency also said that currently, Ho Chi Minh City and the South will have increased thunderstorms in the coming days, possibly until June 10. The weather in the area will mainly have a slight decrease in temperature, with weak sunshine during the day; some places will have moderate rain, heavy rain to very heavy rain. During thunderstorms, it is necessary to be on guard against tornadoes, lightning, gusts of wind, and hail that can be dangerous to people and cause property damage; be on guard against heavy rain and localized heavy rain that can cause deep flooding on some roads in the city center.

People are advised to limit unnecessary travel and prepare flood prevention plans. The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has also directed functional units to closely monitor the weather situation to have appropriate response plans in the coming days.
