Ho Chi Minh City: Approval of the planning task for the International University Urban Area.

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has just issued a Decision approving the planning task for the 1/2000 scale zoning plan of the International University Urban Area in Xuan Thoi Son commune.

Accordingly, the planning area is located within a part of the administrative boundaries of Xuan Thoi Son commune, with the following defined boundaries: the southeast side borders the An Ha canal; the west and southwest sides border Tay Ninh province and Canal 8 (Xuan Thoi Son commune); and the north side borders the Xang canal.

The planning area covers approximately 880 hectares, the research area covers approximately 923.88 hectares, and the planning period extends to 2040.

The objective of this planning is to concretize the orientation of the Ho Chi Minh City Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, while also being consistent with the approved revised master plan for Ho Chi Minh City to 2040, with a vision to 2060.

This will create a solid legal basis for managing spatial development and organizing investment in the construction of the Vietnam International University Urban Area in a synchronized, modern manner, closely integrating technical infrastructure, social infrastructure, and landscape architecture with other areas within the urban area.

Simultaneously, the plan aims to perfect the technical framework according to the master plan, effectively exploiting the natural conditions and unique ecosystem of the area to develop a modern, distinctive university urban area, creating attractiveness and gradually improving urban quality. It also seeks harmonious development between economy , culture and society, environmental protection, and adaptation to climate change.

According to forecasts, the total population of the area will be approximately 135,000 people, of which the student population is expected to be around 60,000. Specific targets for land use, social infrastructure, and technical infrastructure will be determined to ensure compliance with the Ho Chi Minh City Master Plan until 2040, with a vision to 2060.

Regarding implementation, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee is the agency approving the plan; the Department of Planning and Architecture is the appraisal unit; and Berjaya Vietnam International University City Joint Stock Company is responsible for organizing the preparation and submission of the plan for approval.

The planning consultancy firm will be selected in accordance with current legal regulations. The planning period shall not exceed 9 months from the start of implementation. This decision officially takes effect from December 12th.
