On the evening of February 9 (ie the 30th of Tet), talking to a reporter from Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Le Truong Hien Hoa, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism , said that in the past few days, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism has coordinated with the People's Committee of District 8 to pilot the purchase of unsold flowers from small traders.
"By the evening of the 30th of Tet, more than 9,000 Tet flower pots in the Binh Dong wharf area from small traders had been purchased from socialized funds with a total value of more than 600 million VND" - Mr. Hien Hoa said.
This is the first year that the activity of buying back unsold flowers from small traders has been piloted by the Department of Tourism of Ho Chi Minh City and District 8, to avoid having to destroy flowers, which would cause negative reactions.
For the first time, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism coordinated with the People's Committee of District 8 to purchase unsold flowers from small traders.
Mr. Nguyen Huu An, Deputy Head of the Department of Planning and Development of Tourism Resources, Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, informed that the total budget from socialized sources was used for flower purchasing, transportation, and design of Ben Binh Dong flower street... The flowers were purchased evenly at the stalls, including many types, and after being purchased, they were used to decorate the spring flower street of love at Binh Dong wharf, creating space and landscape for people and tourists to come and enjoy Tet holiday.
Previously, a quick report from the organizing committee of the Spring Flower Market "On the Wharf, Under the Boat" Ben Binh Dong District 8 said that from the morning of the 30th of Tet, gardeners began to lower prices on items to sell off the remaining items that could not be brought back, such as chrysanthemums, marigolds, raspberries, cockscombs, etc. However, this year's purchasing power only reached nearly 80% compared to last year's Tet. The prices of goods this year are cheaper than in 2023, most gardeners do not haggle, and bargaining on the morning of the 30th of Tet is less common than in 2023.
Although there is no price gouging this year, purchasing power is only 80% compared to last year's Tet.
The Spring Flower Market "On the Wharf, Under the Boat" Ben Binh Dong District 8 is one of 19 typical annual cultural, artistic and festival events in Ho Chi Minh City. This year, there are more than 600 flower and ornamental plant businesses with a variety of varieties, serving the shopping needs for Tet... contributing to meeting the needs of buying and enjoying flowers and ornamental plants of people and tourists in the city.
According to the city's Department of Tourism, if this pilot solution is effective, it will be expanded to other districts in the near future.
