Over the years, through mobilization sources, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of A Luoi mountainous district (Thua Thien Hue province) has supported the livelihoods of poor households to develop their household economy . With the motto "giving a fishing rod is better than giving a fish", the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of A Luoi district has actively promoted and mobilized people to change their awareness, not to rely on others, but instead to arouse the will to develop production and escape poverty sustainably in each person.

In 2023, the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of A Luoi district implemented livelihood support for 43 households in the district, including 8 households implementing the cow raising model; 2 households raising free-range chickens; 12 households raising goats; 10 households raising pigs; 1 household raising ducks; 5 households implementing the hybrid acacia planting model; 2 households growing green-skinned grapefruit and 1 household growing the medicinal plant Sachi with a total value of 467 million VND from the mobilization of organizations and individuals inside and outside the province.

After nearly 2 years of implementation, many support models have brought about certain results. The livelihood support capital of the Vietnam Fatherland Front has contributed to helping and encouraging poor households to invest in production, livestock raising, and generating income.

From the profits earned after each crop, many households have invested in expanding their barns and converting or adding other livestock models such as frogs and cows to expand their herds.

As a result, the herd of goats has reproduced and grown to 90, the herd of cows to 26; the herd of pigs to 100, some households have sold 2 litters and have more funds to buy more household items; some households have also switched from raising pigs and chickens to raising cows from the money earned from selling the pigs and chickens 3 times... many households have escaped poverty sustainably.

A typical example is the household of Ms. Le Thi Bi (31 years old, residing in Ka Va village, Dong Son commune, A Luoi district) which is a poor household in the commune. With the support of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the district, from the 3 pigs initially supported, her family has tried to take care of the growing herd of pigs.

The first batch she sold earned 37 million VND, then Ms. Bi invested in 2 more breeding cows and continued to maintain 1 sow. Up to now, in the barn there are 10 pigs, 1 sow and 2 breeding cows.

“In early 2024, my family escaped poverty. Thank you to the A Luoi District Fatherland Front Committee and benefactors for supporting my family with the initial source of livelihood to help us escape poverty,” Ms. Bi happily said.

Similarly, Ms. Le Thi Luy (residing in Quang Nham commune), her family was supported with 3 breeding goats in 2023. After a period of care, the family's herd of goats has now increased to 8, of which 5 are in the breeding period.

“Thanks to the attention and advocacy of the Front officials, my family now has more conditions to develop the economy. My family will try to work, take care of the goats and increase production to escape poverty sustainably,” Ms. Luy confided.

According to the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of A Luoi district, in the past time, the Front at all levels has effectively implemented the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction for the period 2021-2025 and the emulation movement "For the poor, no one is left behind", the movement "Clans, clans, villages without poor households" for the period 2022-2025.

Mr. Pi Loong Mai, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of A Luoi district, said that the plan of the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the district always wants to help poor households and households in difficult circumstances through practical livelihood models. Through this model, people can learn from each other and gradually eliminate hunger and reduce poverty.

"It can be affirmed that the "livelihood models" have gradually helped ethnic minorities in A Luoi district change their thinking and production methods, promote self-reliance and escape poverty sustainably," Mr. Mai emphasized.

In the coming time, the Fatherland Front of A Luoi district and its member organizations will continue to implement Resolution No. 11-NQ/HU on sustainable poverty reduction; promote information and propaganda on the sustainable poverty reduction program, mobilize the strength of the whole community to care for the poor according to the motto "using the people's strength to care for the people", support the construction of Great Unity houses, and support the livelihoods of poor households.

At the same time, coordinate with relevant agencies to guide poor households on knowledge, skills, experience in production, animal husbandry... continue to replicate effective models and good practices, considering this one of the important and long-term political tasks to help poor, near-poor, and disadvantaged households of ethnic minorities to become rich legitimately.
