According to statistics from the General Department of Customs, cited by the Import-Export Department ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ), tea exports in July 2023 reached 10.5 thousand tons, worth 18.4 million USD, a decrease of 15.8% in volume and 12.9% in value compared to July 2022.

The average export price of tea in July 2023 reached US$1,756.6 per ton, an increase of 3.5% compared to June 2022. The value of tea exports has grown continuously since March 2023, however, the value is still lower than the same period in 2022.
In the first seven months of 2023, tea exports reached 58.8 thousand tons, valued at 99.9 million USD, a decrease of 15.6% in volume and 19% in value compared to the same period in 2022. The average export price of tea was 1,700.4 USD/ton, a decrease of 4% compared to the same period in 2022.
In the first seven months of 2023, tea exports to major markets continued to decline significantly. Leading in both volume and value was Pakistan, with 23.1 thousand tons worth $44.2 million, a decrease of 11.6% in volume and 10.9% in value compared to the same period in 2022; followed by Taiwan with 7.9 thousand tons worth $13.1 million, a decrease of 35.3% in volume and 46.6% in value; and Russia with 4.2 thousand tons worth $7 million, a decrease of 18.6% in volume and 22.1% in value.
Notably, tea exports to the Iraqi market reached 3,800 tons, valued at $5.7 million, representing a 43.3% increase in volume and a 25.3% increase in value compared to the same period last year.

According to statistics from the International Trade Centre (ITC), Turkey's tea imports in the first five months of 2023 reached 6.6 thousand tons, valued at US$12.7 million, an increase of 54.1% in volume and 27.7% in value compared to the same period in 2022.
The average price of imported tea reached US$1,935.4 per ton, a decrease of 17.2% compared to the same period in 2022. Türkiye imported the most tea from Sri Lanka and Iran in the first five months of 2023.
Tea is an indispensable beverage in Turkish culture, and Turkey is the largest tea consumer market globally, with consumption averaging around 1,300 cups of tea per person per year (equivalent to 3.16 kg per person per year).
With high consumer demand and its position as an important gateway to the Middle East, serving as a transit point to the EU market for many export goods, the potential for boosting tea exports to the Turkish market is very promising, while the proportion of tea imports from Vietnam to Turkey remains low, at only 0.3% in volume.
