Implement solutions to prevent grid failures before the hot season

Attending the conference were representatives of the Northern Power Corporation, the Department of Industry and Trade, the leadership of PC Lao Cai and 40 investors in the Lao Cai area.

Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh, Director of PC Lao Cai delivered the opening speech at the conference.

Currently, in Lao Cai province, there are 71 hydropower plants with a total capacity of more than 1,165 MW generating electricity on the 110kV and medium voltage grids managed by PC Lao Cai. The total hydropower output generated on the Lao Cai grid in the first 4 months of 2025 reached more than 426 million kWh. The total number of 110kV grid incidents managed by the electricity industry in 2024 was 22, mainly due to atmospheric overvoltage, equipment quality degradation, and violations of the grid corridor...

In recent times, PC Lao Cai has developed and issued regulations on coordinating the management and operation of the power grid with investors of hydropower projects; established working groups with modern human resources and techniques to coordinate with hydropower plants to overcome, strengthen and prevent power grid incidents; supported and shared the quick resolution of equipment failures, periodically assessed existing problems and jointly proposed solutions for safe power grid operation.

At the conference, PC Lao Cai and investors evaluated the coordination with hydropower operators, analyzed incidents that occurred, and proposed solutions to apply technology, construction and repair means to prevent incidents from occurring in 2025.

The conference is held annually to ensure safety, stability and efficiency in power transmission. Through the conference, power transmission units improve their capacity to manage, operate and maintain the power grid, thereby minimizing incidents and ensuring the stability of the power system.

In 2025, it is forecasted that there will still be many potential difficulties in managing and operating the power grid. PC Lao Cai and operating units are committed to closely and comprehensively coordinating to ensure effective operation, timely prevention and handling of power grid incidents to serve customers well as well as contribute to the socio -economic development goals of Lao Cai province.
