Regiment 5 was one of the first main regiments established on the Southeast battlefield during the resistance war against America to save the country.

Immediately after its establishment, Regiment 5 consolidated and built its forces while fighting bravely. The officers and soldiers of the Regiment overcame numerous difficulties and hardships, fought with intelligence and courage, and achieved many resounding victories, contributing to the liberation of the South, the reunification of the country, the protection of the Fatherland, and the excellent fulfillment of international obligations in Cambodia.

Authorized by the Minister of National Defense , Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang awarded a Certificate of Merit to Regiment 5.

Regiment 5 was honored to be twice awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces by the Party and State and many noble orders, medals and awards, building the tradition of "Overcoming all difficulties, continuously winning".

Promoting the heroic tradition, over the years, Regiment 5 has had many creative measures and models, building a well-trained unit, strict discipline, high combat readiness, and a comprehensively strong unit.

Speaking at the ceremony, Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang congratulated the achievements of Regiment 5 over the past 60 years, and requested the Regiment to continuously improve the leadership capacity, fighting strength of the Party Committee and organization, the quality of political and ideological education; effectively carry out breakthroughs in training, master technical equipment and weapons, abide by discipline, excellently complete all assigned tasks, build a clean and strong Party organization, a comprehensively strong unit "exemplary, typical".

On this occasion, Regiment 5 was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Minister of National Defense for its outstanding achievements in the 2023-2024 period.
