School suddenly changes graduation plan

Some final year students of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade reported that every year the school usually considers graduation in early April. However, this year it has changed to consider graduation in early March. This change has caused students to not have time to submit their foreign language certificates to be eligible for graduation, and they have to wait for the year-end review.

According to the student, although he has taken the foreign language exam and has a transcript that meets the school's output standards, he has not yet received a certificate to submit to the school, so he is not considered to graduate.

"We took the Japanese proficiency test in December 2024 and have now received the results and score reports (online). The test organizer said that the language certificate is being shipped from Japan to Vietnam.

I reported this result along with my transcript for graduation consideration in March 2025, but the school refused. If I am not considered this time, I will have to wait until October. This makes me lose the opportunity to find a job because of the delay in graduation," a final-year student complained.

Some other students said that in 2024 there will be 2 review periods (March and October). Before each review period, the school will announce the graduation registration period for students to register within 1 week.

Meanwhile, on January 6, 2025, the school principal announced the graduation plan for university students in 2025, including 3 phases: phase 1 (January 2025), phase 2 (April 2025) and phase 3 (October 2025). On February 21, the school announced the graduation plan for phase 2 of 2025, with registration for graduation from February 28 to March 3. The graduation council will meet (expected) on March 13.

A student wondered: "Is it possible that the school changed the graduation plan this year because there are no diploma blanks to issue to students? Graduation is considered a month earlier so that students do not have time to submit their foreign language certificates, leading to not being eligible to graduate and having to wait until the end of the year review period."

Temporary graduation consideration for students who achieve results in foreign language proficiency exams

On the afternoon of March 14, speaking with Tuoi Tre Online about this matter, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hoan - Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade - said that according to the general regulations of the school, each year the school considers graduation twice (March and October).

"This year, to support students to graduate early in time to find jobs in the first recruitment period of the year of businesses, the school considered graduation a week before Tet, not waiting until March 2025. Students who take the foreign language certificate exam at the school only need to have the results to be considered, they do not have to submit the certificate anymore.

However, for students with foreign language certificates outside the school, the school requires submitting the original to be considered for graduation. Because in reality, some Chinese, Japanese, Korean, German certificates... are very difficult to determine whether they are real or fake. The school only accepts original certificates for verification by the training department.

If the verification is correct, the students will still be considered for graduation as usual. The school does not cause any difficulties for the students and there is absolutely no such thing as the school lacking diploma blanks," Mr. Hoan affirmed.

According to Mr. Hoan, at the beginning of the year, the school announced the overall graduation plan. Before each review period, there was a specific announcement of the time for students to register and complete the required procedures.

According to the announcement about the graduation plan for the second semester of 2025, the registration deadline expired on March 3. However, the school found that some students still lacked social work points and foreign language certificates, so it decided to postpone the deadline until March 20. On March 21, the training department will prepare data for the graduation review next week.

"Some students have received their foreign language exam results and are waiting for their certificates. I have instructed the training department to continue accepting applications to be included in the graduation list for the second semester of 2025.

In these cases, students need to submit their foreign language proficiency test scores to the training department. The school will temporarily consider them as meeting the foreign language output standards to consider them for graduation.

However, students still have to submit the original foreign language certificate as required by the school to receive an official graduation certificate," Mr. Hoan emphasized.
