On the morning of October 26th, Ho Chi Minh City University of Foreign Languages - Information Technology (HUFLIT) held its HUFLIT Open Day to welcome new students. Each faculty and department had exhibition areas showcasing research products and application models created by students, including robots.
At the exhibition area showcasing products from the Faculty of Information Technology, many robot products – programmed by students and winning awards in competitions – delighted the new students.
Thao Nguyen, a first-year Chinese language student, attentively gives commands and communicates with the robot dog. Nguyen said that this was her first time interacting with a robot that could communicate with humans, so she found it both strange and interesting.
This robotic dog is capable of interacting with users by standing, sitting, shaking hands, and more. Additionally, it can recognize and avoid obstacles. This product originated from the ROBOT Innovation Competition - ROBOG 2024. Each participating team received a kit from the organizers.
The kits included instructions on assembly models as well as basic software. The teams' task was to choose a model to assemble, then improve the basic software so that the robot could overcome the challenges given by the organizers.
According to the school's representatives, HUFLIT students' technology products are developed within the framework of learning and experience, using existing platforms and equipment for research, improvement, and practical application – in line with the school's goal of "learning by doing."
"The university aims to train students who can apply their knowledge to create application products or put their learned knowledge into practice, while also emphasizing honesty and responsibility in learning and research," a representative from HUFLIT shared.
