Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted (Ho Chi Minh City) leads the ranking of high schools in the national excellent student competition for the 2024-2025 school year with 109 award-winning students. Second place goes to Hanoi – Amsterdam High School for the Gifted (Hanoi) with 108 award-winning students.
Third place went to Tran Phu Specialized High School ( Hai Phong ) with 101 students winning awards.
The next top 10 high schools include: Bac Giang Specialized High School (Bac Giang) with 99 award-winning students; Nguyen Trai Specialized High School (Hai Duong) with 97 award-winning students; and Phan Boi Chau Specialized High School (Nghe An) with 96 award-winning students.
Thai Nguyen Specialized High School (Thai Nguyen) had 90 students winning awards; Vinh Phuc Specialized High School (Vinh Phuc) had 87 students winning awards; Le Hong Phong Specialized High School (Nam Dinh) and Quoc Hoc Hue Specialized High School tied for 9th place with 84 students winning awards each; Bac Ninh Specialized High School (Bac Ninh) ranked 10th with 81 awards.

Among the top 10 schools with the most students winning first prizes, Bac Ninh Specialized High School leads in the number of students achieving top scores in various subjects in this year's excellent student competition, with 4 students achieving top scores in Physics, History, Geography, and English.
Hanoi – Amsterdam High School for Gifted Students contributed two top scorers in the following subjects: Chemistry and French.
Thai Nguyen Specialized High School has a top scorer in the Russian language exam. Le Hong Phong Specialized High School (Ho Chi Minh City) also contributed a top scorer in the national excellent student competition in Literature. That is an 11th-grade student from this school.
Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted is also the only high school in the South to have a top scorer in this year's national excellent student competition.
The schools with top scorers in the remaining subjects are all located in the northern region, except for Thang Long Specialized High School (Lam Dong), which has a top scorer in Computer Science.
The schools in the North that produced top scorers in this year's national excellent student competition are: Hanoi University of Education High School for Gifted Students (Mathematics, Biology, English); Tran Phu High School for Gifted Students (Hai Phong) with Chinese; and Hanoi National University High School for Foreign Languages (Hanoi National University) with Japanese.
3,803 students won national awards for academic excellence.
The national high school student excellence competition for the 2024-2025 academic year will be held on December 25th and 26th, 2024. A total of 6,482 candidates nationwide will participate, an increase of 663 candidates compared to the 2023-2024 academic year.
Candidates took the exams at 68 examination centers with 13 subjects: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Informatics, Literature, History, Geography, English, Russian, French, Chinese, and Japanese.
According to the current regulations for the national-level gifted student selection exam, the total number of awards from honorable mention upwards shall not exceed 60% of the number of participating candidates; the total number of first, second, and third prizes shall not exceed 60% of the total number of awards; and the number of first prizes shall not exceed 5% of the total number of awards.
The judging panel selected 3,803 winners, representing 58.68% of the total number of contestants. The number of winners this year has increased compared to last year.
