Pham Ngoc Thach Medical School speaks out about a series of accusations of research fraud

(Dan Tri) - Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine sent an email inviting the whistleblower to come to the school to provide more information, documents and evidence, but the person did not come.

On the morning of November 5, speaking to the press, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Trong Hao, Chairman of the Board of Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine, informed that on October 20, the school received an email accusing a number of individuals at the school of fraud in research and violating scientific integrity.

Immediately afterwards, the school sent an email inviting the accuser to come to the school to provide more information, documents and evidence, but the person did not come.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Trong Hao shared that this is an anonymous denunciation letter, so it does not meet the conditions for handling according to the provisions of Article 25 of the 2018 Law on Denunciation, which regulates the reception and processing of information containing denunciations and Circular 05/2021/TT-TTCP dated October 1, 2021 of the Government Inspectorate, which regulates the process of handling complaints, denunciations, petitions and reflections.

"However, because the content of the denunciation is related to specific events and individuals under the school's management, the school proactively reviewed and verified the above-mentioned denunciations. Thereby, ensuring that training and scientific research activities in the school comply with the principles and regulations of the law.

We have developed a Draft Regulation on Scientific Integrity and are seeking opinions from units within the school to issue it in the near future," Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Trong Hao added.

Previously, on October 28, Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine decided to establish a working group related to scientific integrity. The working group consists of 7 members with Dr. Pham Quoc Dung, Vice Principal of the school, as the head of the group.

Immediately after its establishment, two associate professors on this list of members withdrew from the working group.

One case withdrew for personal reasons. The other case requested to withdraw from the working group due to information spread on social media related to Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thi Khanh Tuong, who was accused of violating scientific integrity, to ensure objectivity and transparency in the review process.

Recently, at Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine, there was a stir about the case of 24-year-old candidate Au Nhat Huy who was admitted to the school's doctoral program in Internal Medicine.

Candidate Au Nhat Huy is the son of Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thi Khanh Tuong, Head of the Faculty of Medicine, Head of Internal Medicine Department, Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine.

In October, on the forum on scientific integrity, there were many accusations of scientific research fraud related to Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thi Khanh Tuong.
