Not only stopping at performing, People's Artist Do Quoc Hung is also particularly interested in scientific research. The book "Training opera singers in Vietnam" - the result of the research published from his doctoral thesis - is one of the rare academic documents in this field in Vietnam. In the work, he proposed many methods of combining European classical singing techniques with traditional musical elements such as cheo and ca tru - which he has devotedly researched, practiced and taught for many years.
Vietnam National Academy of Music - the largest music training center in the country - is the place that has witnessed the comprehensive growth of Dr. People's Artist Do Quoc Hung, from a young student to a researcher, performing artist, teacher, and now the helmsman of the very "house" that nurtured him.
In his new position, People's Artist Do Quoc Hung clearly identified the top priorities: "We are an artistic training environment, so training is always the number one task. Then there is performance - an important and inseparable part, helping to connect practice with theory, connecting artists with the public." He said that the lecturers of the Vietnam National Academy of Music are all leading artists of the country, and are also the core force in major art programs. Therefore, promoting the capacity of the team and fostering a creative environment are the consistent goals in the development orientation of the Academy.
Born in 1970 in Dong Anh (Hanoi), Dr. People's Artist Do Quoc Hung entered the Hanoi Conservatory of Music - the predecessor of the Vietnam National Academy of Music - in 1991. From intermediate to university, postgraduate and then successfully defending his doctoral thesis in music at this very school, he has devoted more than 3 decades of studying, teaching, performing and contributing to the largest music training cradle in our country.
As one of the leading bass singers in Vietnam, People's Artist Do Quoc Hung won First Prize in the National Chamber Singing - Opera Competition in 2000, received the Golden Cup of the Pyongyang Spring International Music Festival in 2004 and had many international performances in Germany, North Korea, Russia... He was invited to stay as an artist at the Hannover Opera House (Germany) after training and performing there in 1998, but chose to return to Vietnam to continue his teaching career and contribute to the country's arts.
