Sentenced to death 10 defendants in the case of illegal drug trafficking and possession

After 3 days of trial, on June 5, the People's Court of Son La province sentenced 11 defendants in the case of illegal drug trafficking and illegal drug possession.

According to the indictment of the Provincial People's Procuracy, at 00:40 on January 16, 2021, the Van Ho District Police Working Group coordinated with functional forces on duty in the Pa Kha village area, Long Luong commune, Van Ho district, discovered Nguyen Van Duong and Le Van Cuong showing signs of suspicion related to drug crimes, confiscating more than 3.6 kg of crystal meth and 4 synthetic drug pills. Expanding the investigation, the functional forces arrested 9 more defendants.

During the period from June 2020 to January 16, 2021, the defendants repeatedly illegally bought and sold drugs, with a total drug volume of 21,531.64 grams of drugs, including Methamphetamine (including 16,767.64 grams of crystal meth; 4,770 grams of pink meth), 8,000 grams of Ketamine and 28.84 grams of MDMA. This is an especially serious case, the defendants committed the crime over a long period of time, and the volume of drugs bought and sold was large.

After considering the nature, level, crime and role of each defendant in the case, the Provincial People's Court's Trial Council sentenced 10 defendants to death: Bui Thi Minh, Tran Thi Hoa, Hoang Van Tai, Diep The Anh, Luong Thi Chung, Le Van Cuong, Dinh Cong U, Nguyen Van Duong, Nguyen Xuan Quy, Phan Thi Bich Ngoc.

Sentenced defendant Luong Thi Thuy to life imprisonment, with the prison term starting from January 16, 2021. No additional fines were imposed on the defendants.

In addition, the first instance judgment also handles evidence, decides on court fees and declares the right to appeal for the defendants and participants in the proceedings according to the provisions of law.
