Raising ornamental birds has helped a young man start a successful business and become rich. That is the case of Mr. Tran Huu Vinh, 31 years old, in Hamlet 5, Tam Hiep Commune, Chau Thanh District ( Tien Giang Province). Raising mutant starlings (hybrids) has helped this young man earn billions of dong.

Even though we had made an appointment, it took us quite a while to meet Mr. Tran Huu Vinh. This young man is usually busy taking care of the starling farm and training the birds in competition skills to participate in competitions near and far.

Mr. Tran Huu Vinh shared that he used to be a construction engineer who worked for 3 years in Ho Chi Minh City. In 2018, due to his single-parent family situation, he decided to leave the city and return to his hometown to start a business.

During his time working here and there, he discovered a very unique, rare, and promising model of raising mutant starlings. Starlings are the "king" of birds and can be raised commercially to make money.

Therefore, he did not hesitate to invest more than 600 million VND to buy 20 pairs of mutant starlings, mainly birds with white or light yellow feathers, to raise at home.

Thanks to his passion and learning from previous breeders combined with practical experience through the breeding process, his flock of mutant red-whiskered bulbuls has developed well.

Up to this point, he has bred and expanded over 600 mutant red-whiskered bulbuls of various types; including 120 parent pairs of red-whiskered bulbuls, the rest are of different ages.

Mr. Tran Huu Vinh, Hamlet 5, Tam Hiep Commune, Chau Thanh District (Tien Giang Province) has been raising starlings for nearly 5 years and has become the owner of a large farm in the West.

Currently, he builds mini cages around his family's 2,000 square meter land. The types of mutant bird species he raises are very effective and valuable, such as: Albino, Light Gray, Yellow, White Gray...

At this time, depending on the type of bird and its fighting skills, each bird costs from 5 to 7 million VND; some good fighting birds cost up to several hundred million VND.

The hobby is also very elaborate, raising starlings is also not easy at all.

According to Mr. Tran Huu Vinh, to successfully raise starlings, the breeder must be passionate, must do in-depth research on this bird; apply knowledge of care and disease prevention. Starlings have value beyond their color and singing voice, and also their fighting skills.

Regarding his passion for starting a business from mutant starlings, Mr. Tran Huu Vinh shared: "First of all, because I am passionate about ornamental creatures, later when I got closer to starlings, I found that they were exactly my interests.

In addition, I found that the profits and economic efficiency that birds bring are also high and stable, so I decided to start a business with starlings.

The key to successfully raising starlings is to first choose the breed, choose quality birds.

Along with that is the guidance of seniors, and through the process of raising animals, you will gain experience to handle problems that arise during the raising process."

Caring for baby starlings requires care and meticulousness.

In addition to raising mutant starlings at home for business, Mr. Tran Huu Vinh also regularly “trains” good starling pairs to compete in tournaments inside and outside the province. Up to now, he has won dozens of first and second prizes in starling competitions.

Mr. Vinh said that through the competitions, he has built a brand, enhanced the value and class of his starling farming model. From there, the value and output of his family's starling farm are very favorable.

Every year, he sells 250-300 mutant starlings for people near and far to raise and compete, earning billions of dong.

In fact, Mr. Tran Huu Vinh's commercial model of raising starlings does not require a large area but requires the breeder to be passionate, attentive, meticulous, and have a good grasp of breeding techniques; and must know the characteristics, habits, and preferences of this type of bird.

Food for this type of bird, in addition to industrial food, also includes fruits such as bananas, mangoes, insects, worms, etc.

Mr. Tran Huu Vinh is passionate about the model of raising starlings.

The cage is placed in a cool, well-lit place. In the cage, there is a food tray, a water basin for the birds to bathe regularly, and horizontal and vertical perches for the birds to perch on.

For breeding birds, it is necessary to build brick cages, built into 3m2 and 4m high cells, arrange bird nests, artificial trees and have cameras to monitor the birds' breeding process.

Mutant red-whiskered bulbuls start to reproduce after 7 months of raising; each year a pair of birds lays 5-10 litters (depending on care and captivity conditions); each litter lays 2-3 eggs, in some cases 4 eggs are laid.

According to Mr. Vinh, the mutant starlings he raises have many advantages over natural starlings: beautiful bodies, strange feather colors, and beautiful singing voices.

Currently, the market for mutant starlings is very vibrant, there is no fear of unsold goods, so in the near future we will expand the scale of breeding and cooperate with brothers in the industry to open more farms and breeding branches to have more income.

Regarding the upcoming playground, I will open a bird club to be a place for brothers to exchange and share experiences in this field of birds" - Mr. Vinh added.

The mutant starling breeding farm of Mr. Tran Huu Vinh in Tam Hiep commune, Chau Thanh district, Tien Giang province is a new, "unique, strange" and large-scale model in the Mekong Delta region, bringing high economic efficiency.
